The Walt Disney Company’s new Lake Nona, Florida campus is going before the city’s development review committee today, March 9, 2023.
The Lake Nona parcel is second on the committee’s agenda this week, listed as Lake Nona Parcel 20A Office Complex. The owner is listed as Andrew Arel of Dynamic Campus LLC, the Disney-connected entity that purchased the land back in 2021. Tavistock Development Co. is acting as the applicant on behalf of Disney and Dynamic Campus in this request for a Specific Parcel Master Plan (SPMP).
As seen in public plans earlier this year, the campus aims to have eight buildings, three garages, and a central plant. It is an approximately 1.8 million square feet parcel north of Lake Nona Blvd., west of Helios Blvd., east of Medical City Dr., and south of Central Florida Greeneway (SR 417).
City staff recommends the request be approved and it’s expected the committee will follow that recommendation.
After the request is approved, Disney would next submit official site plans and then building permits.
Disney is already Central Florida’s largest employer, but the Lake Nona campus is expected to add 2,000 more jobs.
The campus was originally scheduled to be established in 2023, but the full move from California was later shifted to 2026. Some employees who will end up working at the campus have already moved to Florida, while others had to back out of home purchases.
Many Cast Members, including Imagineers, have urged Disney not to complete the move, particularly after the passing of the state’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill and Governor Ron DeSantis’ vendetta against Disney after former CEO Bob Chapek finally denounced the bill. DeSantis has signed a bill into law for the Florida government to take over Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District and has appointed an oversight board.
