BEWARE of this Magic Kingdom DELAY

If you’re headed to Disney World, it’s always a good idea to be prepared for the unexpected.

Magic Kingdom

Rides are periodically shut down for technical difficulties and refurbishment closures are common occurrences all around the parks. In Magic Kingdom, there are multiple things to look out for at the moment — from the construction of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure to the new coaster opening next month, TRON Lightcycle / Run. Even the walking paths from the Transportation and Ticket Center are under construction. But there’s one unexpected problem that you could run into that is harder to avoid — and it might cause a delay in your Disney plans!

We were headed to Magic Kingdom today when we noticed that the Express Monorail was only running in one direction — from the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) to Magic Kingdom. We talked to a Cast Member who said that it should be back up and running from Magic Kingdom to the TTC later today, but in the meantime, guests will have to take the Resort Monorail or the bus.

This isn’t the first time we have seen this happen, however, and it seems it might be a somewhat regular occurrence. The Cast Member we spoke to said it’s normally closed in the mornings and reopens around 12-12:30PM.

Express Monorail station

While it is unclear whether this is an everyday occurrence, Cast Members weren’t aware of any technical difficulties with the Monorail, so it might just have to do with demand. The Express Monorail station at the TTC is frequently very busy in the mornings, as it was for us this morning, so this might be a measure to manage the crowds. With the Monorail only taking guests one direction (from the TTC to Magic Kingdom), it can move a bit quicker to get everyone to Magic Kingdom in the morning.

Crowds at TTC

Whatever the reason, if you are headed to Magic Kingdom and are going to need to leave the park in the morning, it’s a good idea to account for this setback. While you’ll still be able to get around on the Resort Monorail, this option makes stops, so it will take a little longer.
