After Disney Parks demonstrated a new small robot at SXSW, it seems clear that the technology is meant to emulate Judy Hopps from “Zootopia,” which means it would probably first appear at the “Zootopia” land in Shanghai Disney Resort.
The robot not only resembles Judy, with floppy bunny ears beneath a helmet, but the Imagineers referenced “Zootopia” by saying “try everything,” the film’s main theme performed by Shakira.
The City of Zootopia land is currently under construction at Shanghai Disneyland and is scheduled to open later this year. Guests may get to see this life-size Judy Hopps roller-skating around the land.
Disney is also developing a potential “Zootopia” and “Moana” land to replace DinoLand, U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This plan is very much still in the “blue sky” phase, but it’s another spot where a Judy Hopps robot could appear.
Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde have appeared as standard costumed fur characters in various Disney Parks for meet-and-greets, parades, and cavalcades.
