The first refurbished Disney Vacation Club Boulder Ridge villas have opened at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. Though rooms are still being completed, all guests booking now will be put in an updated room. Watch our tour of a one-bedroom villa below and keep scrolling for photos.
Entryway
There’s a small mirror unit with hooks on the wall by the front door. A spacious closet with two sliding doors and a shelf is to the side.
Kitchen & Dining
The dining space is a yellow leather couch and a pair of brown chairs.
Above the couch are four posters resembling national park posters, but these are for the fictional Whispering Canyon, Brownstone National Park, Lake Elias (by way of Copper Creek), and Big Basin National Park.
Whispering Canyon Café is a restaurant at Wilderness Lodge and its poster includes Donald on a mule. Brownstone National Park is featured in Humphrey the Bar cartoons and Humphrey is featured in a hammock on the poster.
Lake Elias is a reference to Walt Disney’s middle name, and his father’s first name, while Copper Creek is the name of the cabins and other villas at Wilderness Lodge. Minnie and Mickey are huddled next to a fire making s’mores on this mountainous poster.
Big Basin Redwoods State Park is the only real location, being a park in California, home of The Walt Disney Company. Goofy is driving a car pulling a camper along the edge of a cliff, in reference to the 1938 short “Mickey’s Trailer.”
There’s a small dining table with a yellow booth seat and two brown chairs flanking.
The cabinets of the kitchen are green, while the countertops are white. There is a dishwasher, coffee maker, oven, and full-size fridge.
The Keurig is for both pods and pot coffee, both of which are available in a tray on the counter.
There’s an ice bucket and toaster.
Further, we also have an electric stove and oven.
There’s also a built-in Kenmore microwave. All the appliances are stainless steel.
There’s not quite enough room for the lower fridge door to open and close properly.
To open it all the way, the fridge has to come forward slightly. But to close it, the fridge has to be pushed back.
Living Room
The kitchen counter unit continues into the living room, with a set of three shelves and three drawers. There is a small breakfast bar with two stools.
The living room has an L-shaped heather gray sofa atop a rug with a tan, red, and black southwestern patterned rug.
The TV is mounted above the built-in unit, across from the sofa.
A trunk-like coffee table is green and red with a dark brown wood top.
The top slides up to reveal the pillows for the wall bed hidden by the sofa. The top surface can still be used like this, as a desk or table.
Disney Vacation Club rooms are now stocked with this book: “The Story of Disney 100 Years of Wonder” by the Walt Disney Archives staff. You can’t take it, but you can peruse it during your stay.
There are pink, teal, and white vases on the shelves of the wall bed unit.
They have small hidden Mickeys.
A lantern-like lamp is also on one shelf.
There are two standard outlets and two USB outlets on each side of the sofa/bed. One of the outlets is used up by the phone on the other side.
This artwork above the sofa features Mickey on a hike with Pluto. In the background, Goofy is doing “the perfect cast” with his fishing pole, as seen in “A Goofy Movie.”
The panel featuring the artwork has handles to pull it down, revealing the bed.
This artwork behind the bed is of Mickey and Pluto sleeping after their day of hiking.
Sliding glass doors lead out to the balcony.
The curtains have southwestern-style stripes along the bottom, with the center green stripe featuring silhouettes of Mickey and Pluto.
The image of Pluto is from (or at least inspired by) the 1939 animated short “The Pointer.”
Balcony
There are two chairs and a small glass-top table on the balcony.
We had a view of the main entrance walkway of Boulder Ridge.
Bathroom
The bathroom and bedroom are down a short hallway.
A bifold door has leaf cutouts.
Behind the door are the washer and dryer.
Heading into the bathroom, there’s a step-in glass-walled shower.
The shower interior is simple cream tile with diamond shapes behind the shower head.
There is one sink and vanity in here.
The unit is dark brown wood with a black marble counter. The mirror has rope elements on the frame.
There are iron and frosted glass light fixtures. They are nicely themed although don’t provide as much light as we would like.
Another door leads to the toilet room, where there are more towels and deer artwork.
The artwork has two deer silhouettes, which aren’t directly from “Bambi,” but match the theme of the resort.
Another door next to the shower leads to the tub.
This space is then open into the bedroom.
In addition to the tub, there is a long counter with one sink.
Above the tub is artwork of Mickey and Minnie canoeing.
The tub is not a jacuzzi, unfortunately. Just a standard tub.
A similar cream diamond pattern is on the wall here. The mirror also matches the one in the other bathroom. There are two drawers and some shelves on the sink unit.
There’s a nice wooden tray and soap dish for the toiletries.
A light-up mirror folds out from the wall above the hand towel rack.
There is a walk-in closet off the tub room, where you’ll find luggage racks, extra pillows and blankets, and a steamer.
Bedroom
On to the actual bedroom!
The carpet is a gray and white pattern. A similar (although not exactly the same) pattern is on the wall behind the headboard.
A watercolor hangs on the wall next to the bed. Mickey and Minnie are standing next to a river, observing fish, bears, and a bird.
There are two bedside tables with lamps. The furniture in here is mostly brown wood grain, while the tables and dresser have white marble tops.
The headboard has a light brown strap decorations with built-in reading lights. The bed has white linens and one themed throw pillow.
Chip and Dale’s silhouettes are running through the wilderness on the pillow.
There is a bench seat with red faux leather upholstery and a shoe cubby.
The long mirror has a dark brown border with two birds on top.
The dresser has light brown drawers. Standard, USB, and USB-C outlets are built into the top of the dresser.
A small table resembles a drum.
The armchair has colorful striped cushions.
The lamp above the chair has a built-in reading light, too.
It has a small adjustable light poking out next to the switch.
The curtains have a similar color scheme as the ones in the other room, but with a larger pattern.
It’s printed with a giant map covered in Disney Easter eggs (and some real places).
There’s Whispering Canyon again.
Artist Point is another Wilderness Lodge restaurant. T.M. Railroad is a reference to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
There are some hidden Mickeys in the map.
Old Sequoia is a reference to a 1945 Donald Duck cartoon where he’s charged with protecting an ultra-tall tree from being cut down by two beavers.
Geyser Point Bar & Grill is also at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.
Grizzly Peak is of course an icon of Disney California Adventure.
Bobcat Bend is a section of Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort.
The D. Duck Honey Farm owned by Donald Duck and Beezy Bear National Forest are references to “Beezy Bear,” a 1955 short film starring Donald and Humphrey.
Old Reliable Geyser is a geyser at Wilderness Lodge that goes off every day.
The bear from the Wilderness Lodge logo is patterned in a stripe across the bottom.
The curtains do not hide a second balcony, just a large window.
While the other bedside table had drawers, this one has a cabinet door.
Disney also recently replaced some of the furniture and upholstery in Boulder Ridge’s lobby and Iron Spike Room.
