Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom is huge and is filled with all types of attractions. There are so many experiences here that are never overlooked, but there are a few that I think are underrated and get skipped by the repeat visitor. I get missing certain attractions when you’ve been to the park many times because you have to make space for newer things, but at least visit one underrated ride if you can.
I recently spent some time in Fantasyland, taking in all of its beauty, and made a list of the experiences that, in my opinion, are underrated.
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
This silly old bear tends to get overlooked, especially since the attraction is across from Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. The line can be long on busy days, but that can be said about most rides on days like that. This attraction is a classic dark ride. I wish we had more of them at Magic Kingdom.
Here you’ll bounce around with Tigger, come face-to-face with Heffalumps, and be fully immersed in the world of Winnie the Pooh. I love this attraction, especially on a hot day, because the air conditioning here is always on full blast. That is not the only reason I love it, though. I think all the scenes throughout the ride are fantastically done, and the animatronics here are impressive.
To me, this attraction is a must-do when I’m at the Magic Kingdom, and most of the time, the people with me don’t agree. They would rather skip the attraction and ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which, yes, I agree that the zany railroad is a better attraction, but we can go there after riding The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid
Journey of The Little Mermaid is relatively new but tends to have low wait times and can sometimes even be a walk-on. Like the Many Adventure of Winnie the Pooh, this ride competes with Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. This is also a dark ride where guests descend below the waves and enjoy a whimsical musical adventure with scenes from the animated classic.
I know that some of the animatronics have issues and might not be fully functional, but that adds some humor to the ride. The Ursula animatronic is genuinely mind-blowing. One of the best scenes is the Under the Sea section. The music makes you want to dance, and it feels like you are partying with Sebastian and Ariel. This is an attraction that shouldn’t be skipped at all. Is this on your pass list?
Mickey’s PhilharMagic
Mickey’s PhilharMagic has been around since 2003 and has recently undergone some changes. This is a 4-D attraction at Magic Kingdom, and it is beyond compare. They added a new scene honoring Coco in 2021, and the song choice is “Un Poco Loco.” I loved this added scene. It was so fun and had everyone in the audience dancing in their seats.
Usually, the wait time for this attraction is nonexistent, mainly because there are so many other things to do in that area, like “it’s a small world,” Peter Pan’s Flight, and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. It is easy to say, “oh, maybe next time” when passing this musical adventure, but maybe do it this time. It’s only a 12-minute show, and the air conditioning there is fantastic. On a scorching summer day, it’s the perfect place to take a break. Is this where you go when you need a moment away from the sun?
I know some of these might be on several people’s must-do lists for Fantasyland, but I know so many people that insist on skipping these attractions because they aren’t worth it, in their opinion. For me, I have to carve out time to do these three things because, to me, they are just so fun. Dark rides always end up on my list because they remind me of old-school Disney, and sometimes it’s nice to experience those things. Of course, after enjoying these attractions, I run to Thunder Mountain to ride one of my favorite Disney coasters.
