We’ve all heard stories about guests bringing their pets to Walt Disney World, not the service animal kind, but the family-pet-on-a-vacation kind. However, I have always wondered how it actually works. I know some hotels have special allowances for pets, but what does your pet do during the day when you are at the parks? How does your pet cope with the time you spend in the parks? And if you do have a service animal, how do they manage to be in the park?
Walt Disney World has the following information about service animals while in the parks:
At Walt Disney World Resort, a service animal is a dog or miniature horse that is trained to do work or perform tasks for, and to assist, an individual with a disability.
Service animals must be under the control of the owner at all times and should remain on a leash or in a harness. Cast Members are not able to take control of service animals.
Due to the nature of some attractions, service animals may not be permitted to ride. At these locations, please ask a Cast Member about available options, including Rider Switch with a member of your party or a portable kennel.
I’ve never seen a miniature horse in the parks in any capacity, let alone as a service animal, and I have trouble understanding how that would work. No disrespect to anyone with a miniature horse as a service animal; I’d just like to know how you manage and navigate the parks when you bring them along. Anyway, moving back to the topic of general pets, Disney has four resorts that are dog-friendly:
- Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
- Disney Port Orleans Resort – Riverside
- Disney’s Yacht Club Resort
- The Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort
