We found a new ornament inspired by Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room at the Plaza Point Holiday Shoppe in Disneyland.
Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room Ornament – $24.99
Today in the Plaza Point Holiday Shoppe we found a new ornament inspired by the Enchanted Tiki Room.
The ornament is a several-inches high wooden totem pole with a tropical bird seated on its base. This item is a representation of the Tiki Totem Poles, who are characters appearing in Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room. Four totem poles are part of the attraction where they are brought to life by audio-animatronics.
The parrot’s coloring does not match any of the four primary stars of the show: José, Michael, Pierre, or Fritz.
Plaza Point Holiday Shoppe is situated on Main Street, U.S.A. at Disneyland Park, offering holiday ambience and festive seasonal shopping year-round. Disney describes the shopping experience at this location as follows:
‘Tis the season—each day of the year—at Plaza Point. The story of the shop starts with Miss Evelyn Toro, the proprietress who curates the most wonderful collection of holiday décor. Get lost in the magic browsing through wonderful ornaments, housewares and accessories. Have fun watching artistry in action, as Cast Members hand paint names on ornaments. Ornament personalization is available for purchase year round.
Other Enchanted Tiki Rooms
These four are not the only birds to have starred in this show, historically. In one instance, it also featured Iago from “Aladdin” and Zazu from “The Lion King.”
This unlikely duo starred in Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room when it was reimagined to be Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room (Under New Management). This iteration only played at the Magic Kingdom location in Orlando, Florida.
The Enchanted Tiki Room (Under New Management) ran for almost thirteen years from April 1998 until January 2011, when a small fire damaged it. This, along with negative guest feedback, lead Disney to restore the original Enchanted Tiki Room to Magic Kingdom. The show in its revamped version was not as well-loved amongst guests; many were relieved to see the attraction returned to its former state.
In this now defunct version of the attraction’s story, Iago and Zazu co-owned the Tiki Room. Iago longed to make the show cooler and more trendy, but the Tiki gods were not happy with his managerial direction. They warned him, but Iago’s hubris got in the way of his better judgement and he ignored the warnings. As the show progressed, Uh-Oa, the fictional Tiki goddess of disaster, unleashed her fury on Iago. She is only summoned by continued disrespect of the Tiki gods.
Two other versions of the Tiki Room show have existed — both in Japan. From 1999 to 2008, Tokyo Disneyland presented The Enchanted Tiki Room — Get the Fever!, which was styled like a Las Vegas lounge show featuring high-energy songs like “Hot, Hot, Hot” and “In the Summertime.”
From 2008 onward, the Tokyo version has presented The Enchanted Tiki Room — Stitch Presents Aloha e Komo Mai, which features the rascal Experiment 626 interrupting a more Hawaiian-themed show with his antics.
