Thousands More Layoffs Coming to Disney Staff Next Week

Disney is set to cut thousands more jobs next week, and according to an article on Bloomberg, approximately 15% of the jobs on the chopping block are coming from its entertainment division.

The article states that the “cuts will span TV, film, theme parks and corporate teams, affecting every region where Disney operates.” In addition, the “people familiar with those plans” who shared the details with Bloomberg “asked not to be identified” as the information they provided has not been made public.

You might remember that back in February, during an earnings call, Disney CEO Bob Iger said that 7,000 jobs would be cut across the company in an attempt to trim about $5.5 billion from its operating costs.

In a similar article, Deadline reports that “network programming and studio marketing are believed to be among the areas that will take a hit this time, and there will be a new round of cuts at ABC News.” The article mentions that Hulu is also expected to be affected significantly and that ESPN “will also be under the microscope in terms of cutbacks.”

Bloomberg says those receiving layoff notices could see them as early as April 24.
