Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is a fun, quirky, vibrant land filled with nostalgia. Its only downfall is the lack of shade and all the random umbrellas placed after the land opened to help create shade. This park section is an excellent place for kids and those of us who grew up with the films. The area is behind Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway and next to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The transition between Toy Story and Star Wars is a bit weird, but Disney makes it work. Anyway, let’s head into Andy’s backyard.
Toy Story Land Attractions
There are three fun rides in this land that are great for the entire family and Toy Story fans.
We all know and love Toy Story Mania! which existed before the land. The most significant change to the ride was the entrance. They had to create a new entry that was on the opposite side of the original, and Disney did a great job doing that. The ride itself stayed the same and is a fan favorite. Toy Story Mania! is perfect for all ages and all heights, and it does involve a bit of spinning when moving from scene to scene. Lightning Lane is available for this ride, and in my opinion, I think this is an excellent ride to use the service.
Slinky Dog Dash is a family-friendly coaster with twists, hills, and drops. This attraction is very popular, which results in long wait times, so this is another one I’d recommend using Lightning Lane. According to Disney, this ride is perfect for kids, adults, teens, and tweens. It is also classified as a thrill ride with tiny drops. The minimum height is 38 inches, so this is a great first roller coaster for younger travelers.
Last but not least, we have the Alien Swirling Saucers. This is a fun ride for all ages, with the minimum height being 32 inches. On the My Disney Experience app, this ride is classified as a spinning ride, but it’s not as intense as Mat Tea Party at Magic Kingdom. I think this attraction is such a fun time, especially at night. In the evening, once the sun has set, the ride becomes completely different due to the lighting used on the ride itself and in the land.
Dining in Toy Story Land
Before March 23rd, 2023, there was only one place to eat in the land, Woody’s Lunch Box. Now there are two dining locations since Roundup Rodeo BBQ opened earlier this year.
Woody’s Lunch Box is a quick-service restaurant where guests can find breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The storyline is that Andy’s turned his lunch box into a backyard walk-up window that serves grilled cheese, lunch box tarts, and totchos. The only con to this dining location is that there’s not currently enough seating. I always feel like I’m waiting in a sea of people who are looking for a seat, and sometimes I have to take my food somewhere else outside the land. The pro to Woody’s Lunch Box is that it’s affordable, and there’s something for the entire family here.
If you are looking for a bigger meal in a highly themed, air-conditioned building, Roundup Rodeo BBQ is the place to go. I fell in love so fast with this restaurant, and if I had $45 in my pocket for food each time I visited Hollywood Studios, is would eat there every time. The food and atmosphere were good, and I left feeling full for hours. I recommend eating here for dinner or having an early lunch so that you can walk around after and digest your food. It’s not the most amazing barbecue in the world, but it’s decent enough to be considered good.
Shopping in Toy Story Land
There’s only one major store in Toy Story Land called Jessie’s Trading Post. This store is located at the exit of Toy Story Mania! and is filled with fun merchandise themed to your favorite characters. Jessie’s Trading Post is relatively new, and the entire store is just as themed as everything else in the land. If you don’t want to ride the interactive attraction but want to check out the store, you can simply walk in through the exit.
Sprinkled throughout the land, several merchandise carts sell basic stuff like plushies and toys. These are convenient if you want to pick something up quickly and keep on moving to the next area. There’s also a store on Sunset Blvd by the front of the park that sells all things Pixar. It’s a great place to visit while you’re on your way out of Hollywood Studios.
Character Meet & Greets
In Toy Story Land, you can meet Woody and Jessie near the entrance of Toy Story Mania! throughout the day. The line gets very long for those two characters, so if meeting them is important to you, be sure to fit that into your schedule.
Over by the entrance of the land by the large Woody icon that welcomes guests to Andy’s backyard is where you can meet Buzz Lightyear. He is usually off to the side in an awkward placement, but due to that, his line is short and moves faster than the others.
Toy Story Land can seem hectic and hotter than the sun, but it has so much to offer. It houses three amazing attractions, two dining locations, character meet & greets, and more. If you are traveling with someone that loves Toy Story, make sure to fit this section of the park into your itinerary.
