The Magic Carpets of Aladdin Experiencing Repeated Extended Downtime for Weeks at Magic Kingdom

The Magic Carpets of Aladdin attraction in the Adventureland portion of Magic Kingdom is currently down, and starting to show a pattern of frequent delays and interruptions.

Magic Carpets Not Flying Yet Today

Magic Kingdom opened at 9 a.m. this morning, and the carpets have remained non-operational since 9:02 a.m. Lightning Lane bookings are still available, though a re-opening time is unknown.

Last year, Magic Carpets ranked seventh across all of Walt Disney World for total amount of interruptions, according to WDW Stats, with 434 minutes. The year prior was roughly the same, too. For Magic Kingdom, in particular, it was fourth, behind the Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, and Peter Pan’s Flight.

This ride has been going down almost daily for most of this month, and was experiencing similar troubles yesterday, closing and opening temporarily in a repetitive cycle. The potential causes for these disruptions are not yet known.

The Magic Carpets of Aladdin is an aerial carousel, much like Dumbo the Flying Elephant, elevating guests above Adventureland as they gently glide in a circle. Characters and designs inspired by the 1992 animated feature film dominate the experience, along with Spitting Camels that occasionally spray unsuspecting visitors as they enter.

During attraction downtimes, Cast Members sometimes set up activities for guests like checkers and Connect Four.
