We spied new trash cans themed for Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast, a new mural, and a few colorful construction updates among the ongoing construction for the upcoming Minion Land opening this summer at Universal Studios Florida.
Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast Themed Trash Cans
These new trash cans are themed after Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast.
A promotional poster for the new attraction can be seen on the construction wall behind.
New Awnings in Minion Land
Two new awnings have been installed since our last update yesterday.
A new mobile pickup awning for the Minion Café and a striped awning have both been installed on the façade.
Minion Land will take over Production Central, transforming it into Illumination Avenue with a new Minion Café, replacing the former Universal Studios’ Classic Monsters Café. It will also feature “other surprises inspired by popular characters from Illumination’s blockbuster franchises.”
The bright blue construction walls are still in place as the land continues to transform. The colorful striped awning may be for Freeze Ray Pops. The available treats at this location will include a variety of colorful popsicles inspired by Gru, the Minions and Vector. Beverages will also be available.
The construction crew is working on transforming the space. Plywood still covers the windows.
The new Minion Café Mobile Pickup awning is striped in blue with a yellow mobile phone icon.
New ‘Bello’ Mural
A new “bello” mural with illustrated minions has also been painted on part of the structure’s façade.
“Bello” translates to “hello” in the Minion’s language.
Floral illustrations also decorate the mural alongside the block lettering.
The Minion’s Café letters are still wrapped in tape.
The scrim came down yesterday.
Painting Begins Near Bake My Day
In addition, we noticed some new paint on the brown façade situated between Transformers: The Ride-3D and Bake My Day.
Cables have also been removed from the front window cutouts. Check out the differences here.
Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast
Belle Bottom, Jean Clawed, and the other members of the Vicious 6 will join guests aboard Illumination’s Minions at Villain-Con. Visitors will “blast their way to supervillain stardom.”
Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast is a moving walkway stand-through shooting attraction. The attraction was developed in partnership between Universal’s award-winning creative team and the filmmakers from Illumination. This interactive blaster game experience invites guests to compete against each other in hopes to join the franchise’s most dastardly supervillains.
Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast will use screen technology, gaming interactivity and physical sets to create a unique, game-based adventure. Guests will put their villainous skills to the test in these immersive environments, where they’ll spot nefarious evil-doers and mischievous Minions from Illumination’s films. The attraction promises to allow guests to interact with these characters in a whole new way.
The story behind the attraction is that guests are transported to Villain-Con: the biggest criminal convention on the planet. Here, they are instructed to take part in a competition to see if they have what it takes to become the newest member of The Vicious 6. Guests will then grab an interactive blaster and step onto a motion-based pathway to start blasting.
They’ll move through several scenes where they earn points by shooting at a variety of items and causing as much destruction as possible.
This attraction is in the old Shrek-4D ride building, and is a permanent replacement. Take a look at our transformation video below.
Bake My Day Eatery
Also clearly visible in the construction images is the giant cupcake that will sit atop the Bake My Day eatery.
At this location, guests will be able to delight in cupcakes, macarons, and s’mores. This venue will also feature a selection of Minion-inspired merchandise, including apparel, plush, drinkware, accessories, keychains, and more.
