We Ate 30 Layers of Cake in EPCOT and We’d Do It Again

If you’ve been a follower of DFB for a while, then you know that we’re all about the Disney snacks!

We’ve got a list of tried-and-true favorites, but we’re also constantly on the lookout for new treats to try in the parks and resorts. EPCOT tends to be a treasure trove of snacks with many goodies from around the World Showcase, and recently, Disney added another item to the menu.

Connections Cafe is the Starbucks location inside EPCOT, located next to Connections Eatery. Disney shared recently that a new snack would be coming to Connections — the Baumkuchen, which is translated as “tree cake” in German.

The snack arrived on June 6th in two different flavors: vanilla and chocolate. You can get these little cakes for $5.99 each.

When we stopped by to pick up our order, we could watch the chefs making the treats through the kitchen windows. And there are several informational signs up with details about the Baumkuchen.

First up, we’ve got the Vanilla Baumkuchen, made with 15 layers (!!!) of cake and vanilla flavoring. Each of these comes packed in an individual box.

This was surprisingly fluffy and light, even though we expected it to be brittle. You can taste the vanilla and the light icing coating the outside and neither flavor is too overwhelming.

It can get a tad dry in the middle of the ring, and we wish that we would’ve had a little larger of a portion, but all in all, it was really delicious! We highly recommend this to vanilla cake fans.

The other option is the Chocolate Baumkuchen, which was a little bit heavier than its vanilla counterpart. But man, was it good! It’s also made with 15 layers of cake and the milk chocolate coating reminded us of the kind used on Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bars. The layers of cake were light and fluffy.

Our warning here though — this is a MESSY treat! That chocolate melts fast in the sun, so you may want to eat this one indoors and keep some napkins on hand. It’s probably worth it though. 😉

So should you stop by Connections Cafe to try the two new treats? We really enjoyed them! It’s nice to get a little variety inside a pretty typical Starbucks location.

And if you’re craving something sweet, these just might satisfy your craving! Disney hasn’t shared how long they’ll be around, but we’ll let you know if we get an update.
