Disney is transforming Pacific Wharf at Disney California Adventure into San Fransokyo Square from “Big Hero 6.” The re-theme has been ongoing for months and more murals continue to be added to the façades of the land while it remains open.
San Fransokyo Construction
We previously reported on the large San Fransokyo mural above the restrooms, plus the Baymax-themed restroom people.
Lucky Fortune Cookery will remain after the re-theme is complete.
Many of the façades are still surrounded by construction walls and scrim.
Some of the re-theming is as simple as adding Japanese characters alongside English text.
Wharf Side Murals
There are several themed murals and advertisements facing the water of Pacific Wharf. Some of these remain from the previous theming while more “Big Hero 6” details have been added.
During a visit earlier this week, we saw two crew members painting this mural.
They were adding logos beneath “San Fransokyo proud home of”.
A few days later, this painting project was complete.
The logos are for fake sports teams. One reads Golden State Samurai, another is for the Nurasaki Emperors, and the last one appears to be an S, F, and N layered over each other.
As seen on some of the signage, San Fransokyo Square will be the official name of the land.
We could previously see an image of a lucky cat resembling Hiro’s cat Mochi, but it’s now blocked by scrim and scaffolding.
After a closure to paint it red, the San Fransokyo Gate Bridge reopened but it doesn’t yet have its tori gate towers, as seen in concept art below.
San Fransokyo Concept Art
Early concept art shows some of this San Fransokyo signage and the whole building draped in paper lanterns.
Right now, the area is largely known as a food court for Disney California Adventure. Among Lucky Fortune Cookery and the Cocina Cucamonga Mexican Grill, other options in the land include Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop, Pacific Wharf Cafe, Rita’s Baja Blenders, and Pacific Wharf Distribution Co.
When the construction is complete, the new version of the land will include a Baymax meet-and-greet, food, and more. San Fransokyo Square is expected to fully open this summer.
