Bad Bunny’s Spider-Man universe movie “El Muerto” has been pulled from Sony Picture’s release schedule. Sony has not indicated its new release date at this time.
‘El Muerto’ Pulled from Release Schedule
According to Deadline, Sony Pictures stated on Wednesday that the previously announced release date for “El Muerto,” the Spider-Man spinoff movie starring Bad Bunny, has been retracted. The film is being directed by Jonas Cuarón, and this Columbia Pictures movie is going to be the first time a Latino character leads a Marvel live-action film.
Known in the comics as Juan-Carlos Estrada Sanchez, El Muerto is a wrestler whose superhuman powers come from a special mask that has been passed down for generations.
The studio had previously set “El Muerto” to release exclusively to theaters on January 12, 2024. Today, the studio said the January 2024 slot will be replaced with “The Book of Clarence,” the Jaymes Samuel-directed film starring LaKeith Stanfield. This movie, from Legendary Pictures, had previously been planned for a September 22, 2023 release.
Another film to move spots is “Dumb Money,” a movie from GameStop starring Paul Dano. Another one from Columbia, this film will now move from its October 20, 2023 date to now free the September 22 slot. Sony has not indicated at this time if “El Muerto” will take the now free late October release slot.

The release of this movie also spurred a range of merchandise, including a new MagicBand+ that became available in late May. In addition, nearly all modern Spider-Man movies became available on Disney+ in late April.
