Genie+ has gone through a whole slew of updates since it first debuted in Disney World back in 2021 — so if you’re still trying to keep up with the latest changes, you’re not alone.

Just when we thought that we were getting the hang of things and had a good system going with when to purchase Genie+ and what rides to use it for, Disney went and announced that it would be changing. At first, we thought we had found a HUGE problem with the change, but we actually think it might be a solution after all. 

With the new Genie+ changes, you buy the service based on which park you’ll be using it in. You can buy it for Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or Disney’s Animal Kingdom, but the price for each park is different. If you’re planning to Park Hop (visit multiple parks in a single day), you’ll need to buy the multi-park option. We originally thought there was going to be a huge problem with this — but it turns out Disney just solved a major problem instead.

Here’s the thing: Disney will NOT sell you the multi-park option if Genie+ is sold out in ANY park. So if Genie+ sells out in Animal Kingdom, you cannot buy the multi-park option even if you were just planning to visit Magic Kingdom and EPCOT. When one park sells out of Genie+, the multi-park Genie+ option is gone as well. (We’ve seen Genie+ sell out a few times in Disney World, but it’s not super common.)

At first, this seemed like it would be a problem for folks. But then we realized something — with the old Genie+ system, if the service sold out in any park, it was impossible to purchase the service at all — no matter which park you were visiting.

Let’s say Genie+ was sold out only in Magic Kingdom — you wouldn’t be able to buy it for the other three parks. Of course, Disney didn’t share any info with the public about which park would sell out, only that all of Genie+ was sold out. But now, you’ll at least still be able to buy Genie+ for other parks even if it’s sold out at another.

So what if you still want to park hop but the multi-park Genie+ option is unavailable? You have a few options. First, you can park hop and only use Genie+ in ONE of the parks you’re visiting. Just buy Genie+ for that individual park and then use standby queues for the other parks you visit.

You can also choose to buy multiple single-park Genie+ services. So if Magic Kingdom is sold out but you had planned to visit Hollywood Studios and EPCOT, you’d have to buy Genie+ for BOTH Hollywood Studios and EPCOT. That could mean that Genie+ is pricier than you’d planned for that day.

Ultimately, these changes are something we’ll all have to get used to if we want to use Genie+ in Disney World. But, keep in mind that with this new park-specific pricing, you might actually be able to save some money depending on where you plan on going.
