After a two-year closure, Les Mystères du Nautilus at Disneyland Paris has reopened just one day after Imagineers shared updates regarding the attraction’s refurbishment.
In yesterday’s update, we learned that, in addition to refurbishing all of the Les Mystères du Nautilus props and sets, the Grand Salon Scene was updated with new technology that wasn’t available when the attraction first opened 30 years ago when the attraction first opened. The Oculus has a new 3D look made possible by a technique inspired by the multiplane camera.
Imagineers set out to ensure that the attraction told a relevant conservation story. In order to accomplish this, they consulted the animal program team at EPCOT. Les Mystères du Nautilus also now has a new narration and unique soundtrack. You can read more in Disneyland Paris’ press release.
Twitter user @DLPReport shared a first look at the newly refurbished attraction, which is now absent of the squid attack scene (pictured above). That particular scene has since been replaced by a screen that displays dolphins, sharks, and other sealife as they swim by.
@DLPReport shared several other photos and videos from the refreshed attraction, highlighting the newly integrated technology as well as the updated organ. You can check those out below:
We first learned of the refurbishment during the Disneyland Paris 30 Grand Finale Gala Presentation. There, it was announced that updates and a refurbishment were scheduled for Les Mystères du Nautilus in Discoveryland as well as “it’s a small world” in Disneyland Paris.
At the Disneyland Paris 30 Grand Finale Gala Presentation, it was revealed that Les Mystères du Nautilus would be adding a few “special details,” including knobs on the organ. Details from the original organ from the “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” film, which is currently at the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland in California, were set to be used in the refurbishment.
The attraction was set to undergo a complete “subsea refresh”. During the refurbishment, numerous sets, accessories, lighting, and sound systems were expected to be updated.
Les Mystères du Nautilus is a walkthrough attraction at Disneyland Paris that takes guests through several rooms from Captain Nemo’s submarine. It is an updated version of the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction at Disneyland in California in the 1950s. It is also based on a film of the same name.
