4 Disney World Construction Projects You Totally Forgot Were Underway

Disney World is pretty consistently under construction in one way or another. Still, that constant construction saw a pretty big interruption this year with the closure of the theme parks and the subsequent halt on construction.

Future World Construction

Since then, we’ve seen a few projects delayed indefinitely and potentially even canceled. Still, there are some projects that march on (at least to the best of our knowledge) — and you might’ve forgotten about some of them! Here are 4 Disney World construction projects you totally forgot were underway!

1. Roundup Rodeo BBQ

Did you forget that there’s a whole new table service restaurant coming to Toy Story Land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios? We don’t blame you. Well, here’s your reminder that we’ll be chowing down at Roundup Rodeo BBQ at some point in the future. Imagineers had reached the point of installing thematic elements and the entrance marquee prior to the park closures!

Last we heard, the new dining concept was set to open sometime in 2020, and there has yet to be any news otherwise. Hmm…it sure would be nice to be dining at this new spot by the end of the year!

2. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa Walkway

This one might not seem that exciting, but we think it’s pretty monumental! Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is getting its very own walkway to Magic Kingdom! YES. How could you forget? This walkway means that all three of the monorail loop resorts will have pedestrian access to Magic Kingdom since Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort already has a walkway to Grand Floridian.

Grand Floridian Walkway Sign

The best part about this project is that it’s almost DONE. In fact, it’s so close to completion that a new sign was installed that confirms that the walkway will connect Magic Kingdom and Grand Floridian. Ooh! We’ll be keeping a close eye to see as soon as this opens!

3. Space 220

Ok, ok, don’t get us wrong. We’re still super excited about Space 220, EPCOT’s upcoming space-themed restaurant, but it’s been soooo long since it was supposed to open last winter with barely any news about how things are coming along. Can you blame us for forgetting it’s in progress sometimes?

Space 220

We check in on progress on the new restaurant every time we’re in EPCOT and the exterior has looked pretty similar for a while, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t work being done that we CAN’T see. Early last month we even spotted some construction workers nearby! You can bet we’re waiting with bated breath for an updated opening from Disney so stay tuned if you are too!

4. EPCOT Neighborhoods

We would never have imagined that it would be easy to forget a piece of the EPCOT Transformation, but there’s not much about 2020 that we could’ve imagined at all. So, yeah, we tend to forget that the new EPCOT Neighborhoods are going to be a thing, and we wouldn’t be surprised if you do too!

Pin Central Construction

Sure, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind are still at the top of our minds (cause: NEW RIDES!); but World Celebration, World Nature, and World Discovery aren’t projects we think about as often. If you’re not IN EPCOT all the time like we are, it can be easy to forget that Future World is under construction at all! Still, work is certainly continuing all around Future World.

Pylons by Spaceship Earth

Even if you remember that the Future World construction is ongoing, you might not remember EVERYTHING that we can still expect from the transformation. As a reminder, we get to look forward to the makeover of the Wonders of Life Pavilion into the Play! Pavilion, a Festival Pavilion, and Moana Journey of Water, a new walkthrough attraction.

Wonders of Life Construction

Not only is most of the area still crisscrossed with construction barriers, but we’ve spotted permits for the transformation multiple times over the past few weeks. Plus, have you seen the new throwback entrance pylons? So pretty! We have to say, even though we forget about the EPCOT Neighborhoods sometimes, we’re still super happy that they’re in progress!
