As you know, there are a whole host of considerations that you have to make when finalizing your travel plans. You have to double-check that the room, and grab any last-minute travel essentials. But a big consideration that you may not have spent much time on is where you will sit on the plane. About that, we wanted to go over some info that might help you make the best decision.
We know. We know. We know that air travel is the safest form of transportation available. Normally, all we’re thinking about when choosing our seats typically are questions like, “Do I want a window or aisle seat? Or, maybe I should pay more for extra legroom?” But, lately we have started wondering about another question: “Which seats are the safest?”
We’re not trying to be pessimists, but we think it’s always wise to have a plan in place for those one-in-a-million chance accidents and to that, let’s take a look at the following infographic (via Statista.com):

Basically, what that graphic represents is that in a study by Popular Mechanics based on reports from the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board), it was concluded that seats in the rear of the cabin had the highest rate of survival in a crash. If you sit in the rear part of the plane, you have a 69% chance of staying alive in a crash. That is a 20% increase over those in business class.
There was another study done by researchers at Time where they went through 35 years of FAA data, and found similar results.

They found that seats in the rear third of the aircraft had a lower fatality rate than the seats in the other parts of the plane. They specifically found that middle seats in the rear section were the best by far, with a fatality rate of 28 percent (the yellow box in the graphic). Again, we’re not trying to be all gloom and doom, just trying to help you make the best, and safest, travel decision for your upcoming trips!
