Following today’s announcement that Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone will officially be replaced with a DreamWorks land, we checked on the construction site at the corner of Universal Studios Florida.
DreamWorks Land Construction
Tall metal poles now tower over the construction walls, which are decorated with DreamWorks characters.
Smaller horizontal pieces of steel stick out of the vertical poles at 90-degree angles.
Right now, there’s no way of knowing what this structure will eventually become. Universal described the DreamWorks land as “immersive and interactive” but didn’t provide many details.
A crane towers over the steel poles.
Though Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster, Fievel’s Playland, and Curious George Goes to Town all closed permanently with Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone, E.T. Adventure and Animal Actors on Location! remained open. Guests currently have to walk through construction walls to reach E.T. Adventure.
For two years, Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone housed DreamWorks Destination, a replacement for A Day in the Park with Barney. DreamWorks Destination included meet and greets and a dance party, but the land will hopefully have more attractions.
In the announcement, Universal referenced “Gabby’s Dollhouse,” “Shrek,” “Trolls,” and “Kung Fu Panda.” The latter three franchises are featured on concept art for the land’s sign (below).
Currently, guests can meet DreamWorks characters in the park’s Hollywood section.
The land is set to open in 2024. Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone closed in January 2023.
