When you’re making your plans for Disney World, you might be planning for your days to be jam-packed with rides, activities, and snacks to try.
However, many folks find that when they actually arrive to Disney World and are finally experiencing their long-awaited magical vacation, they’re just… too tired. Despite all the magic, excitement, and highly-anticipated plans, reservations get cancelled and experiences get skipped. If this happens to you, if you can’t seem to make it out of bed in time to rope drop, or if you just can’t bear to stay in the park until the fireworks, rest assured that you’re not alone.
The exhaustion and fatigue that comes along with a Disney World vacation is totally normal — it happens to all of us. If you find that you’re skipping out on experiences and cancelling dining reservations left and right — give yourself some grace. Use this as a sort of “template” for your next Disney World planning experience and give yourself some extra rest time for your next vacation!
There are all sorts of factors that go into why you’re suddenly so exhausted. There are also a few solutions to help alleviate how tired you’re feeling, other than chugging a bunch of caffeine. Let’s talk about it!
You’re in a new environment.
You’re in a new bed, with new pillows, in a room with a usually frigid temperature, and you can sometimes hear laughter and slamming doors for the majority of the night.
This can definitely impact your sleep, resulting in more fatigue. We recommend bringing something familiar from home to help you out in this situation! A weighted blanket, white noise machine, box fan, aromatherapy spray — whatever helps you relax!
It’s HOT.
It’s true. The heat will drain you faster than anything else. Even if you’re used to being on your feet all day or walking miles and miles and miles back home, it’s going to feel different in the Florida heat and humidity.
Make sure to hydrate often, take breaks, stay in the shade when you can, and take it SLOW. Oh, and don’t forget the sunscreen. You can get free water from quick service restaurants in the parks, and there are bottle filling stations throughout the parks as well. Use them!
You’re walking a LOT more than you usually do.
Well, maybe some of you clock in long-distance walks and runs on the regular and are well-prepared to traverse the parks. Most of us, though, don’t really walk the many miles at home that we do at Disney World. Especially not in the heat.
It’s important to wear comfortable shoes and clothes that you know will keep you comfortable and cool all day long. We cannot say it enough — while lots of us like to bring new clothes on vacation, the shoes you bring need to be your tried and true, broken in pairs.
Your diet is likely different.
Hey, vacation is the perfect time to load up on sweets and those meals you crave when you’re not at Disney World. However, if we had to guess, we’d say that you probably don’t eat the same types of foods or in the same amounts at home that you do while at Disney World.
This can make you more tired while also upsetting your stomach — which is just as exhausting when all is said and done. Listen to your body, and don’t feel forced to keep your dining reservations — just be sure to cancel them so you aren’t charged a fee. On the other hand, all the walking might make you hungrier than usual, in which case it’s totally okay to indulge in all the foods that Disney World has to offer. No shame, no guilt, no matter what!
We hope that these tips can help alleviate some of your fatigue or help you feel less alone about being more tired than you expected. We’ll continue to keep you updated with any and all Disney news and advice. Make sure to follow along for more!
