Progress on the transformation of the courtyard next to Splitsville Luxury Lanes into The Alley at the Downtown Disney District looks to be almost complete, with a sign on display now advertising the refreshed space is “coming soon.”
The Alley
We spotted this display near where The Alley will be located. It gives a quick blurb about what guests can expect from the new space, along with the tease that it’s “coming soon.”
Here you can see the space that The Alley will take up. It even has its own display sign featuring the name of the space.
Cloth-covered barriers are up to prevent guests from entering the area, though it looks practically complete to us.
Inside the fenced area is a large patch of artificial turf, picnic tables, Adirondack chairs, tables, and plenty of space to relax and hang out.
Cast members told us that they were expecting a summer opening for The Alley, which will feature interactive games, live music, lounge areas, and seats for dining.
Guests to The Alley will also be able to enjoy the food and beverage offerings from Splitsville, since the two are right next to each other.
Downtown Disney Refurbishment
The Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort is currently undergoing a transformation including several new shops and restaurants. The areas set to be constructed and refined are inspired by the mid-century space age look that enjoyed remarkable popularity in California throughout the 1950s and 60s.
This process has slowly progressed over the last few years, though Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock has now revealed an 18-month completion time-frame, which roughly sees the District fully embracing its fresh face around the end of 2024.
Downtown Disney District continues to be reimagined with new dining, shopping and entertainment experiences, along with long-time favorites throughout the promenade. Future plans for the district also include the addition of Din Tai Fung, a world-renowned Chinese restaurant known for its soup dumplings and noodles, plus masterful Mexican cuisine by Michelin-starred Chef Carlos Gaytán at Paseo and Céntrico, and the beloved California-Cuban cheese rolls and pastries from Porto’s Bakery and Cafe. A new permanent home for Earl of Sandwich is also on the way. Currently, the sandwich shop sits in the former home of La Brea Bakery, which will be the site of Porto’s in the near future.
Recently, we’ve seen work underway on the site with Uva and Catal being demolished as quickly as they closed. The long-dormant space near the Disneyland Monorail has also kicked off vertical construction.
