While on a recent visit to Disney California Adventure, we decided to check out some of the menu items at Paradise Garden Grill that were added earlier this summer.
Paradise Garden Grill
These items replaced the BBQ-centric menu that was added to the restaurant last summer, but there have been other seasonal menus offered between then and now.
Sweet Thai Chile Chicken Tenders – $12.99
fries topped with cheese sauce, chicken tenders tossed in sweet Thai Chile sauce and slaw with crushed almonds, mandarin orange segments, crispy noodles and citrus vinaigrette
The Thai Chile sauce is a great addition to the chicken, but the tenders themselves had just a tad too much breading.
The cheese fries are an interesting choice to pair with the tenders, definitely not something we’re used to. The wonton crisps also gave the dish a bit more crunch than we would’ve wanted.
Still, it’s a pretty good meal overall.
Dulce de Leche Mousse Tart – $6.99
tart shell filled with dulce de leche white chocolate mousse, made with Twix cookie bar pieces
The Dulce de Leche Mousse Tart a wonderfully sweet dessert with a delicious mousse at the center.
The Twix pieces on top are not overpowering at all, and the crust was perfect.
This is definitely one of the best desserts Paradise Garden Grill has ever had, in our opinion.
Al Pastor Loaded Fries – $12.99
topped with Oaxaca spiced cheese sauce, Al pastor marinaded pork, salsa verde and pineapple relish
The Al Pastor Loaded Fries is the best item on the menu. There’s so much flavor on the Al pastor, with just a little bit of kick.
The salsa verde on top is excellent, and pairs well with the fries. The portion size is also great, if that’s something you’re after.
Loaded Burrito – $13.99
flour tortilla, fries, beans, carne asada, cheddar-jack cheese, avocado spread, chipotle crema, pico de gallo and tomatillo salsa, served with tortilla chips
The Loaded Burrito offers a large portion for the price, but we found the flavor of the carne asada to be a little bland. The meat is just okay, nothing special .
Despite all of the various ingredients inside the burrito, including guacamole, pico de gallo, and French fries, there was not a lot of flavor present.
Impossible Chili Cheese Fries – $12.99
topped with cauliflower cheese sauce, chili, avocado sour cream and pico de gallo
This is a passable vegan dish. The meat alternative was flavorful, but the vegan cheese underneath is bland.
Like many Impossible-based dishes, it was difficult to tell if this was vegan or real meat. We would definitely order this again if we were vegan.
Grapefruit Mezcal Paloma – $16.50
mezcal, house-made serrano syrup, grapefruit and lime juices
The Grapefruit Mezcal Paloma is very heavy on the mezcal flavor and smokiness, which is great if you’re a fan of the spirit. Non-mezcal lovers may want to look for something else though.
We also thought this was very refreshing on a hot day.
Overall, we liked most of what we tried, but there were a couple of items that just didn’t offer the flavorful aspect we were expecting from those dishes. The Al Pastor Loaded Fries and Dulce de Leche Mousse Tart are not to be missed, so be sure to give those a try before the menu is temporarily revamped for Plaza De La Familia starting September 1.
