Walt Disney World Introducing New Credit Card Readers

New credit card readers are being rolled out at Walt Disney World Resort. The update to the new readers began on Monday, August 21. It appears designed to make the experience faster, more efficient, and more secure.

The new reader features a tap to pay touchpoint along the top of the reader, which allows for guests to use their MagicBands, phones, or tap-enabled cards to complete transactions.

These new card readers recognize MagicBands much more easily and quickly, so guests don’t have to wait when making purchases.

It also has an front camera, which you can see just below the swipe, which is used for “1D/2D code scanning,” according to the company that manufactures the readers.

Guests can still swipe cards through the swipe located just below the tap point, and a chip reader is below the number pad for cards with chips.

The new machines are housed in the same frame as the old machines.

Here’s a look at what the former card readers looked like. While a number are still available, the new ones are starting to replace them.

The chip reader was still at the bottom, below the number pad, but the card swipe was located on the side.

The MagicBand reader was a separate attachment from the credit card reader, included via plug-in to the main reader.
