Pokémon are expanding their presence at Universal Studios Japan for the Halloween season at the Hahaha! Halloween Party. The characters are set to appear in two daytime events — and you have to catch them all… or, both.
Pokémon at Universal Studios Japan for Halloween
Select Pokémon — specifically Pikachu, Misdreavus, Mimikyu, Gengar, and Banette — are set to appear at Universal Studios Japan for the festive celebration. The characters will appear in two separate events: Pokémon Charge-Up! Halloween Greeting and Pokémon Jumpin’ Halloween Party, both of which are scheduled to run from September 11 to November 3, according to Universal Studios Japan’s official website. We were able to check them both out on September 5.
The Pokémon Charge-Up! Halloween Greeting is a more intimate character meet-and-greet. Five dancers and characters parade into the venue and interact with guests, teaching them some dance moves and inviting them to join in on the fun.
Guests have the opportunity to take photos of the Pokémon and dancers and also receive a paper wristband to celebrate the event.
The Pokémon Jumpin’ Halloween Party is larger in scale, but calling it a “show” may be a bit of a stretch. It’s more of a choreography and jumping session; additional dancers join the already introduced performers on stage and engage in easy-to-replicate dance moves, encouraging the audience to join.
The Pokémon themselves also get in on the fun. Pikachu and Gengar appear here in their special DJ attires.
LED lights appear on the stage, adding more color and vibrance to the daytime performance.
The Hahaha! Halloween Party is Universal Studios Japan’s daytime family-friendly Halloween celebration. In addition to Pokémon, guests have the opportunity to interact with characters like My Melody, Kuromi, and the Minions, all of whom are wearing special Halloween costumes. The Hahaha! Halloween Party runs from September 7 through November 5.
The Hahaha! Halloween Party serves as the daytime and demographic supplement for the Universal Studios Japan version of Halloween Horror Nights, which runs this year from September 8 through November 5. A version of Halloween Horror Nights is also offered at Universal Studios Florida, Universal Studios Hollywood, and Universal Studios Singapore.
Pokémon at Universal Studios Japan
A Pokémon-centric Halloween show was first announced to be coming to Universal Studios Japan in late June. The announcement signaled the expansion of Pokémon characters at the park; after an announced partnership between The Pokémon Company and Universal Studios Japan in 2021, Pokémon like Pikachu, Charizard, and Jigglypuff made their debut at Universal Studios Japan alongside Super Mario and Sesame Street characters in the “NO LIMIT! Parade” in February 2023.
Pokémon have since been implemented as themed merchandise and dessert options. In March, a Squrtile churro, Pikachu bun, and Bulbasaur sipper were available at Universal Studios Japan.
