A new way to take your favorite Disney characters on the go with you will debut at Disney Parks next year. An upcoming collaboration between Disney and Lug was showcased at Destination D23 2023 at Walt Disney World Resort; the collection will include bags featuring Figment, Orange Bird, and many more beloved characters and will be released in 2024.
Upcoming Disney Lug Bag Collection
The upcoming line was revealed at Destination D23. Lug is the presenting sponsor of Destination D23 2023, and the new collection serves as the company’s first merchandise collaboration with Disney.
Each bag was shown in both its actual size and as a large-scale inflatable mockup.
The collection features a significant amount of EPCOT theming, though EPCOT is not the only Disney Parks experience represented. Bag-specific brochures were available at Destination D23, with the pamphlets indicating that the bags will be available at EPCOT upon release.
The Germany, Italy, United Kingdom, and Canada Pavilions at World Showcase will each receive their own bag equipped with a legacy Disney character. The Germany-themed bag is black and features Mickey Mouse wearing an Alpine hat on the front. He appears underneath a “Disney Parks/Lug” plaque; similar plaques appear on every bag in the set. Mickey trades in his classic red shorts for Lederhosen on the back.
The Italy-inspired bag is red and depicts Minnie donning a bow draped in the colors of the Italian flag. Mickey is seen singing on the back, and “La Vita è Bella” is written above him; “La Vita è Bella” translates to English as “life is beautiful.”
The Winnie-the-Pooh bag serves as the United Kingdom’s entry. The yellow bag features Pooh’s face embroidered into the front, and his two round ears emerge from behind the front pocket. Pooh’s iconic red shirt and the Winnie-the-Pooh logo are seen on the back.
The Canada Pavilion bag features a buffalo plaid base complete with Mickey and maple leaf silhouettes in the negative space. Chip appears on the bag’s front and back pockets.
The collection keeps with the EPCOT inspiration but expands past World Showcase with the Figment and Orange Bird bags, which the brochure indicates will be released for the 2024 EPCOT International Festival of the Arts and the 2024 EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival, respectively.
The Figment bag features a purple base, handle, and zipper pulls. A large Figment patch extends past the edges of the front pocket.
The 2024 EPCOT International Festival of the Arts logo is embroidered beneath the beloved dragon’s orange wings on the back of the bag. The star of the Journey into Imagination with Figment attraction, Figment acts as a pseudo-mascot for EPCOT in addition to serving as the face of the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts. A Fgment meet and greet recently debuted at the park, prompting lines of up to five hours.
Orange Bird, though not originally native to EPCOT, is also a popular figure within the park and Walt Disney World Resort, as a whole. The character debuted at Magic Kingdom in 1971 and acts as the icon of the annual EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival. The Orange Bird bag features the character’s eyes and beak embroidered into the front pocket, with two leaves emerging from behind the bright orange pouch.
The 2024 EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival logo is embroidered on the back beneath two green leaves.
The collection then travels from Florida to Hawaii to include ‘Olu Mel, a turtle who debuted at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in 2018. ‘Olu Mel serves as the Aulani representative in the Duffy and Friends narrative and toyline. His Lug bag is bright green and features his eyes and nose stitched to the front.
The back of the bag features ‘Olu Mel’s shell detailed in silver and teal thread. A Mickey head appears at the center of the shell, and ‘Olu Mel’s logo is seen on a tag at the bottom of the bag. The Aulani Resort logo is also printed on the back.
Though the available brochures do not confirm that the ‘Olu Mel bag will be available at EPCOT alongside the other bags, merchandise depicting the character has been available at Walt Disney World Resort in the past.
While not part of this specific collection, blue runDisney Lug bags were also showcased at Destination D23. Mickey heads are embedded along the items, and they each feature a tag with the runDisney logo.
Lug is also producing a Winnie-the-Pooh-themed purse and backpack. Both bags are light yellow and feature Winnie-the-Pooh-specific and general United Kingdom iconography, such as Pooh wearing a bearskin, a slouching Eeyore, and Big Ben.
