Work on Island Mercantile at Disney’s Animal Kingdom continues, as another set of registers has been curtained off for removal.
More Registers Being Removed at Island Mercantile
During a visit to Disney’s Animal Kingdom this past Saturday, September 9, we spotted this black curtained area where the former beaver-themed cash wrap area was previously located.
The curtains block any kind of view as to what’s happening to the registers, though you can see a small corner of exposed concrete sticking out toward the bottom middle of this photo.
There is still enough room for guests to walk around the curtained area, though the sides might be a bit of a tight squeeze with the nearby displays.
The curtain goes all the way back to one of the walls behind the former register area, splitting the middle between two merchandise display shelving areas.
The green beaver shelves are completely inaccessible to guests, thanks to the curtain.
During our visit to Island Mercantile today, September 13, not much has changed. The Mobile Checkout sign and baskets have been moved out from the corner and more in front of the curtains.
The Mobile Checkout sign encourages guests to utilize the My Disney Experience app to purchase their merchandise while in store, in order to avoid having to wait in line at a register to pay.
Here’s what the register looked like prior to the curtains going up.
Former Cash Wrap Area in Camel Room
The camel room of Island Mercantile was the most recent cash wrap area removed. In our last update, the circle of registers was covered by black tarp in the center of the room.
The circular tarped area is gone, leaving just a single rack of merchandise in the center of the room, for now. The rolling racks of merchandise that were previously here have also been removed.
You can see the discoloration on the floor, marking where the cash wrap once was.
These floors could use some TLC, though it seems for now, work in this area is complete.
