Disney giveth and Disney taketh away.

It’s something we’ve come to expect — whether it’s a snack in the parks, a classic attraction, or even your favorite new show on Disney+. Don’t get too attached because you never know when it might go away — just like all the television shows Disney has canceled so far this year. Let’s check them out!

The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers

Nostalgia wasn’t strong enough to convince Disney to keep The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers on streaming platforms. The series was a follow-up to the 1992 film that starred Emilio Estevez, the Mighty Duck Man himself.

But, there was no final puck drop for this show, as Disney announced its cancelation earlier in 2023.

The Mysterious Benedict Society

This show was inspired by a book series and featured two seasons before Disney decided to cancel it.

A third season was on the way, but the show was canceled before it made it to the writers’ room. It was the first series cancelation Disney made in 2023!

Big Shot

Another show that was canceled before its third season could be developed was Big Shot, starring John Stamos.

The series followed a men’s basketball coach who was fired from the NCAA and was forced to coach a girls’ basketball team at a private high school. If you were a fan of this show, we’re terribly sorry for your loss.

National Treasure: Edge of History

We’re going to steal the Declaration of Independence… or something like that. Except we won’t get the opportunity to see that happen in this series, as it was canceled back in February of this year.

After only airing one season, Disney decided that treasure hunter Jess Venezuela wouldn’t get the chance to go on any more adventures to find a centuries-old treasure that might have something to do with her dad. We need closure, Disney!!!

Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.

This was another reboot that was inspired by the late 80s/early 90s sitcom Doogie Howser, M.D. starring Neil Patrick Harris. But, this reboot didn’t prove to be quite as popular as the original.

The series followed Lahela “Doogie” Kamealoha as she worked on balancing a budding medical career as a 16-year-old girl, but ultimately it was canceled before the third season.

The Spiderwick Chronicles

If you missed your chance to catch this show — so did everyone else. The Spiderwick Chronicles didn’t even make it to air before it was canceled by Disney.

Inspired by a book series, this show is now being shopped around to other streaming platforms — so it’s possible we could still see it, just not on Disney+!

The Nautilus

If this one doesn’t sound familiar, that’s because it also didn’t get the chance to premiere on the platform. The Nautilus details the origins of Captain Nemo, but it was canceled in late August.

The series had been filmed as part of a 10-part live-action series Disney had acquired rights to, but now they’re not planning on bringing it to the streaming service. There’s a chance we could still see this series pop up somewhere else, so we’ll be keeping an eye out for it.

The Wonder Years

And finally, the most recent show that has been canceled was yet another reboot. This show premiered on ABC and received two seasons, but was ended before its third. The Wonder Years was a new spin on this much-beloved series and is yet another series that Disney decided to not bring back.
