Ever since 2013, Disney fans can’t stop singing songs like “Let It Go” or “For the First Time in Forever”. That’s because Frozen was a MAJOR hit in movie theaters!
Over the past 10 years, Disney has been adding bits of Frozen into the parks and we see long lines for things like Frozen Ever After and the Anna and Elsa meet and greet in EPCOT. Even Disney’s Hollywood Studios has a Frozen Sing-Along (yes, we visit it often)! But now Frozen expanding to two of the other Disney theme parks…and it may be coming to one more.
Disney just announced its plans to spend $60 billion over the next 10 years on expanding its parks and more in the Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products (DPEP) division. This is nearly double what Disney spent over the past 10 years, and Disney shared that they have 1000 acres of land overall for future developments.
So what could these expansion projects entail? Although the expansion will not impact the parks only, Disney has teased a huge expansion at Magic Kingdom and a replacement for DinoLand USA in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Now, Disney Chairman Josh D’Amaro has given us another clue on what we can expect…and it involves Frozen!
Not only was a Wakanda/Black Panther-themed land discussed, but D’Amaro mentioned a possible Frozen-land coming to Disneyland. This, of course, has not been confirmed, however, the Disney executive said, “Frozen, one of the most successful and popular animated franchises of all time, could have a presence at the Disneyland Resort.” He also mentioned that Disney has “a wealth of untapped stories to bring to life across our business.”
As we mentioned above, two new Frozen lands are opening soon. The first, which opens on November 20th, is at Hong Kong Disneyland as the “World of Frozen”.
There will be a new roller coaster…
…and more — it’s going to be the first FULL land dedicated to the movie!
The second Frozen land is coming to the new Fantasy Springs area that will open at Tokyo DisneySea in 2024! Along with Peter Pan and Tangled, Frozen will be making its way to the park with new experiences and visitors will be able to step into Arendelle. How cool is that?
You may be asking — “is this what we could expect at Disneyland?” It’s too early to say for sure, but it is possible that Disneyland could get something very similar to the lands in Hong Kong and Tokyo. Disneyland Forward is a public planning effort to update Disneyland Resort and we recently got some news about it. This potential Frozen expansion could be a part of that! We’ll just have to wait and see for sure.
