September is a busy month for EPCOT! Hope you can keep up, because there’s a lot going on. Let’s talk about it.
First of all, there’s still quite a bit of construction happening in EPCOT. But the end is near! Then, there’s the Food and Wine Festival, new 100th Anniversary celebrations, and Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana attraction previews ALL happening now. Speaking of that Journey of Water attraction, we’ve got an update to share ahead of the outdoor attraction’s grand opening!
Before we get into the big news at EPCOT, if you are planning a trip to Disney World soon, you should check out our FREE checklists. This one is for EPCOT and can come straight to your inbox. This complete checklist is easy to pull up on your phone, so you can make sure you aren’t missing a single thing there is to do and see in EPCOT.
Disney previously announced that Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana will open on October 16th. There will be a Moana character meet-and-greet in the area, too! But before the big opening date, select Disney World guests can attend a preview of the walkthrough attraction.
Guest previews began on September 24th, and it’s safe to say EPCOT was pretty busy first thing in the morning! According to Disney’s Park Pass Reservation calendar, there were no reservations left for EPCOT on the 24th. That means the park hit capacity for the day!
We arrived bright and early in EPCOT on September 24th for DVC/Annual Passholder guest previews. At first, Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana was operating with a standby line. Then, by about 10AM, Disney opened up a virtual queue for the attraction. According to Disney, a virtual queue will be used “as needed.”

Now, you might want to listen up because this is important. We saw a LOT of guests waiting in line to join the virtual queue for Journey of Water. The line started by The Land Pavilion and ended all the way by Spaceship Earth! But, there may have been some confusion happening here, as this was NOT the line to actually enter Journey of Water. Before you hop in line, make sure you know what the line is actually for — otherwise, you may end up wasting time.
There are two different ways to join the virtual queue. Guests can either wait in line to scan a QR code (located by The Land Pavilion) and join the virtual queue from there, or go to the “Virtual Queues” screen My Disney Experience app and tap “Join Virtual Queue.”
If you want to skip the line, we recommend joining the queue from your phone!
Once we joined the queue, there was no estimated wait time. Disney notes that guests in the virtual queue will get a notification when their group is called. From there, guests can head over to the attraction and check in! Note that there may be a line to enter after your group is called, so be prepared to wait.
In this attraction, guests will be able to explore a “lush exploration trail” that lets guests “play with magical, living water” through an immersive walk-through attraction. We previously attended a Cast Member preview of the attraction and had a BLAST!
In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more.
