These days, it isn’t exactly cheap to watch content from all the major streaming platforms. With all the recent price increases we’ve been seeing, those streaming bills can really start to add up.
Recently, another company announced its plans to create a new ad-free subscription tier (with a price increase). Things are about to change for Amazon Prime Video customers.
For a long time, Amazon’s Prime Video platform was one of the few remaining streaming services without ads. The current price for Prime Video (without ads) is $14.99 a month. Now, Amazon is joining the list of companies that will use advertisements in TV series and movies. Ads are officially coming to Amazon Prime Video, according to CNBC.
Customers will soon see limited ads while streaming TV series and movies on Prime Video. This change is expected to roll out in the U.S. and select cities in early 2024, according to CNBC. For those who would like to opt out of ads, Amazon will introduce an ad-free tier for an additional $2.99 per month, though live events and sports will continue to have commercials in the ad-free tier.
Additionally, Amazon noted that it intends to have “meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming providers,” though we’ll have to wait and see how this could look in 2024.
In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more.
