NEW Permit Clues Signal Changes at EPCOT, Hotels, and More in Disney World

Can you believe it’s nearly October already?!

Happy Halloween!

Next year will be here before we know it, and that means you’re probably already planning your trip to Disney World. There’s a lot you need to consider: where you’ll stay, which parks you want to visit, where you should eat, and what sort of unexpected hiccups you should keep in mind. Construction can get in the way of some experiences, and it looks like more could be coming to Disney World soon.

We’re taking another look at recently filed permits for Disney World to get an idea of what sort of work may be going on around the property — here’s what we found this time around.

Disney Springs

They must be working on sprucing up Disney Springs because we spotted two new permits that point to some cosmetic upgrades in this spot. One permit is listed as “Area development — install two speaker poles in courtyard.” When we checked out the address listed on the permit, it matched up with the Orange Parking Garage so it’s likely that the work will be taking place nearby.

Another permit was filed for Disney Springs, specifically in the Town Center area. The description for this one is to “Install 1 truss footer[s] in planters located in Disney Springs Town Center,” so it sounds like we might see some construction on various planters here.

Both of these permits have Bruns Inc. listed as the general contractor with 1-year expiration dates. We’ll be sure to let you know if it looks like this construction will interfere with your Disney Springs visit!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

We spotted a permit for Animal Kingdom Lodge that sounds like it could be quite the undertaking. ADT Commercial is listed as the contractor on this one, and it’s specifically for work being done at Jambo House.

The work is to “Remove and replace 40 loaded and corroded semi-recessed [pendant] heads at Jambo House.” From what we can tell, semi-recessed pendent heads are a type of fire sprinkler, so it’s possible that Disney is having these corroded sprinklers replaced. We’ll keep an eye on any potential work that might impact your stay.

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground

Disney has officially filed a permit for work on the 350 new cabins that will eventually replace the existing ones at this resort! Disney has announced 350 refurbished cabins will add a new, refreshed look to this space. Buena Vista Construction Company is listed as the contractor, which is Walt Disney Imagineering’s own company. The permit is to “Provide labor, material, and/or electrical for construction,” so we’re not totally sure what exactly this might be for — but we’re excited!

The concept art that Disney has shared depicts a modern cabin “inspired by the resort’s idyllic setting, while also paying homage to the resort’s unique culture and heritage through the magic of Disney storytelling,” according to Disney statements. The cabins will be capable of sleeping up to six adults and feature a bedroom, bathroom, living room, full kitchen, and private patio. Disney also noted further that a select number of cabins will be dog-friendly.

EPCOT

The Toll Plaza at EPCOT is set to get a refresh soon! We found two different permits that both point to construction coming to this area. One specifically mentions installing a new exit sign, while the other is listed as simply, “Install sign,” with no more specifics. It’s possible this work could cause delays at the toll plaza, but we’ll let you know if it does!

Welcome to EPCOT

We’ll keep an eye on more permits that could mean change is on the way in Disney World, so be sure you stay tuned to DFB for more!
