Disney Dining Review: Morning Delights at Rix Sports Bar & Grill in Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort

Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort is a beautiful moderate resort with some of Walt Disney World’s best food. A restaurant we don’t hear much about is Rix Sports Bar & Grill. This restaurant is located near the convention center across from the resort’s quick service. Even though we don’t always hear much about this dining experience, we decided to give it a try. I will be completely transparent before we get into the review. I have eaten here before for lunch, and I enjoyed my lunch. It was a great experience, but I’ve never been here for breakfast, so I was excited about this. Craig has been here a few times for lunch, but never breakfast, and Ryno has only been here once to grab a drink.

One of their breakfast items was recently trending on TikTok for all the right reasons. This new breakfast dish consists of Mickey waffles filled with chicken. It’s a unique way to do chicken and waffles, and I’m excited to see this viral breakfast item finally. Anyway, let’s dive into the ambiance and food!

Rix Sports Bar & Grill – Location & Ambiance

Rix Sports Bar & Grill is located near the convention center and the resort’s quick service. It is a fairly open restaurant, but it can get loud here because it’s located near populated areas. It was surprisingly quiet while we were enjoying our meal, but it was 10 a.m.

The restaurant wasn’t heavily themed or anything like that, but I enjoyed the lighting fixtures and the windows that were around the area. There are also a lot of TVs since this is a sports bar. I loved that we had a TV right in front of us because I could watch predictions for the next Miami Dolphins game. I also enjoyed the Spanish influence seen in and around the restaurant; it added some theming to the area and made the space feel less bland.

Rix Sports Bar & Grill – Food

The menu had some interesting dishes, and we noticed the pricing wasn’t horrible on a few items listed.

I ordered the Avocado Toast ($14), fresh crushed avocado spread, on toasted multi-grain bread, topped with a farm fresh sunny side up egg, served with spring mix salad and lemon vinaigrette. If there’s avocado toast on the menu, there’s a 100% chance that I will order it. I was surprised by the price because my favorite avocado toast at House of Blues cost $15, and to add two eggs is an extra $3. So, in total, my Avocado Toast cost $18, but I never mind paying that because it’s my favorite in all of Walt Disney World.

I didn’t love this Avocado Toast. I honestly had high hopes, and I was let down. The dish lacked flavor. At the very least, it needed some salt and pepper. The avocado itself was fresh and of excellent quality. The spring mix salad was also very fresh, and the lemon vinaigrette was a great touch to the salad. I wish that the dish had more flavor overall. I would’ve added some peppers, onions, and even diced tomatoes to the avocado spread. That would’ve been the ideal avocado spread.

Ryno ordered the Dulce de Leche Maduros French Toast ($16), brioche bread soaked in their homemade crema, topped with sweet plantains and drizzled caramel and served with bacon or kielbasa sausage. This dish was absolutely beautiful. He said this dish was delicious. The French Toast truly blew him away. He recommends getting this dish and splitting it with your table because it’s so good that everyone should try it. He also had a side of house-made potatoes, which he loved. For once, he didn’t have to add ketchup to his potatoes. That’s how good they were.

Craig ordered the dish that had been circulating social media recently, the chicken-stuffed Mickey waffles ($18). This comes with four Mickey waffles stuffed with chicken tenders and maple syrup and served with homemade potatoes. The presentation of this food item was genius, very adorable, and perfect for social media.

Sadly, the dish wasn’t as good as it looked. It seems that Craig got an overcooked batch. He said the waffles were overcooked, leading to him saying the same about the chicken. The chicken wasn’t really a chicken tender. It was the size of popcorn chicken but had a very tough texture. I was really hoping that this dish would be the one to blow the table away and live up to its social media hype.

Overall Thoughts & Ratings

Overall, the meal was decent and was priced really well. It’s been a few days, and I still think about how that Avocado Toast could’ve been way better with just a few modifications. Speaking of modification, if you are vegan or allergic to eggs, you can order the avocado toast without the eggs. I think this is a great spot to catch a game with friends or family. If you aren’t into sports, then I would avoid dining here while games are happening because it can get rowdy.

After calculating all my numbers, my final rating for Rix Sports Bar and Grill breakfast was 4.3 out of 5. Ryno had a great breakfast dish and a decent experience, so his final rating of the restaurant was 4 out of 5. Craig had a not-so-great breakfast food item and rated his experience here a 3.6 out of 5. To watch the full review, check out the video below!
