VIDEO: Guest Escorted Off Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin After Running Through Ride When it Stopped

TikTok user @jenninfl (Jenn In Florida) shared a video of a Magic Kingdom guest running alongside stopped Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin vehicles — and then being escorted away by a Cast Member.

In the first part of the video, the guest is seen running on the platform next to the ride vehicles — having apparently jumped out of his own vehicle — from the biggest room full of aliens to the room where guests first pass Zurg’s ship.

The video then cuts to a clip of a Cast Member walking along the platform in the same area, escorting the guest behind them. In the room near Zurg’s ship, the guest stops at a vehicle with a child in it and retrieves (presumably) his own bag.

Jenn added the song “Bad Boys” by Inner Circle in the background of the video and wrote, “Apparently they don’t like it when you hop out and enter the set.”

As many in the comments have pointed out, this is grounds to not just be removed from the park but to potentially be trespassed (banned) from Walt Disney World. Climbing out of a ride vehicle without permission and assistance from a Cast Member is not only against the rules but highly dangerous, even if the vehicle is stopped.

But that hasn’t stopped guests from continuing to do it. In July, some Disneyland Paris guests tried to exit Big Thunder Mountain by walking on the track while a train was coming. That same month, a man holding a baby waded through the water of Pirates of the Caribbean. In June, a guest jumped out of her Gran Fiesta Tour boat. In May, a woman exited Splash Mountain at Disneyland via Cast Member access stairs, declaring she was having a panic attack.

A version of this attraction has existed at every Disney Resort, but the name often varies:

  • Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom
  • Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters at Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland (and previously Hong Kong Disneyland)
  • Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast at Disneyland Paris
  • Buzz Lightyear Planet Rescue at Shanghai Disneyland

The original opened at Magic Kingdom on November 3, 1998. Though inspired by the opening sequence of “Toy Story 2,” the ride opened a year before the film was released.

It’s an Omnimover shooting dark ride and replaced If You Had Wings / Delta Dreamflight / Take Flight in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland, utilizing the same track. All versions of the ride have guests joining forces with Buzz Lightyear to stop Zurg from stealing batteries.

The second version opened in Tokyo Disneyland in 2004, followed by the California and Hong Kong versions in 2005 and the Paris version in 2006. It was an opening day attraction at Shanghai Disneyland in 2016. Before the Hong Kong Disneyland version closed the next year, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin was one of only two attractions that operated at every Disney castle park in the world.

The other attraction, which is still operating at all the parks and was an opening day attraction for all but the original, is Dumbo the Flying Elephant (it opened a month late at Disneyland in August 1955).
