Your favorite ride could be closed, a show you’ve been waiting to see could be canceled, and in some worst-case scenarios, you could actually get STUCK on Disney World transportation. It’s happened before and chances are it will happen again, and you might just need to be prepared — luckily, we can help!
The Disney World Monorail takes people between the Ticket and Transportation Center, Magic Kingdom, Magic Kingdom-area hotels, and EPCOT. It’s typically a pretty convenient way of getting around the parks and hotels — unless it breaks down and stops working. This can happen from time to time, but recently, it required an entire evacuation.

On October 31st, a Disney World Monorail train stalled due to a flat tire, trapping passengers inside towering above the ground. We were on our way into the parks and happened to see a flurry of emergency vehicles whizz by to head to the accident scene and assist.
A passenger on the Monorail, Kris Lenk, reported “There was a loud bang explosion, and then we kind of saw a big flash of light. After that, the monorail slowed down.” They also mentioned smelling burning rubber and some smoke.

Emergency crews arrived on the scene to help evacuate passengers and brought quite a bit of equipment along, including a large platform that was able to be raised and lowered to assist people to the ground.

It’s clear that Disney is prepared for emergency situations like this, as they had a plan in place to safely evacuate everyone who was on board. If this ever happens to you, try not to panic! Cast Members will make any necessary announcements and are trained to keep you safe should a scenario like this ever arise again.
The same is true if you ever break down when on the Disney Skyliner or a Disney World attraction. Try to keep calm and remember that help is likely on the way!
