Why Frontierland Looks Totally Different in Disney World Right Now

The only true constant about Disney World is that it’s always changing.

Frontierland at Walt Disney World

Magic Kingdom is an absolute Disney World icon. From the towering Cinderella Castle to the futuristic Space MountainMagic Kingdom has no shortage of Disney Parks legends. However, out in Frontierland, one notable mountain isn’t showing its usual shine.

Splash Mountain officially closed its gates earlier this year and with that, made way for a new attraction — Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. The new ride is making good use of the old Splash Mountain but has noticeably been under construction all year, giving Frontierland an eyesore or an extra dose of intrigue, depending on how you look at it. As the attraction construction continues to make progress, the aesthetic of Frontierland also continues to shift. Let’s take a look!

Construction is moving along

Scaffolding along the mountain has been a constant sight this year and is slated to continue into next year. Recently, the one-time Laughing Place was given a fresh coat of paint. As of now, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is scheduled to open in late 2024, so expect this sight in Frontierland for a while longer.

More installation

The ride, which picks up after the events of The Princess and the Frog (2009), takes riders through a transformed salt mine on the way to a Mardi Gras party, coming across familiar faces along the way. The land around the salt mine has also been transformed as well, with a Tiana’s Foods water tower and new tree installations.

Frontierland is also getting some more bayou charm in the form of art. The ride queue mural art is meant to represent the creation of Tiana’s Foods, showcasing Tiana’s professional journey while simultaneously including elements of family, friends, music, and camaraderie.

Mickey Beignets

Additionally, in homage to New Orleans culture, Disney plans to fill the queue with the scent of fresh beignets. While there has been no formal announcement, we’re hoping that more bayou flavor comes to Frontierland in the form of a beignet stand.

Right now Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a work in progress that adds some character to Frontierland. When it opens, though, it promises to present a delightful queue full of great music, smells, and art, a fun ride, and some New Orleans charm that will make Frontierland the place to be!
