At Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter, these hot cocoa Mickey beignets are the perfect treat to celebrate the cooler temperatures…or a terrible holiday disaster, depending on how you choose to eat them.
Hot Cocoa Mickey Beignets – $7.79 for 3
Trio of Mickey-shaped Beignets with a dusting of Hot Cocoa Powder, Fudge Drizzle, Snowflake Sprinkles, and a pipette of Chocolate Milk
The classic beignets are still on the menu, but each season brings a new offering at Scat Cat’s Club – Cafe at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter.
We spotted the holiday offering next to the classic menu as we were ordering.
The sweater-themed sign has a photo of the beignets, which appear to be made with cocoa in the stock image.
We ordered a set of the hot cocoa beignets, but ours looked more like classic beignets with toppings than the cocoa-infused base from the image.
The trio of hot cocoa beignets comes with a pipette full of chocolate milk, and each beignet is dusted with powdered sugar, thick fudge, and a few snowflake sprinkles.
Inside, the beignets are the classic, fluffy treat we’ve come to expect from Scat Cat’s Club – Cafe.
The dough is lightly sweet, getting most of its sweetness from the toppings.
The dough is soft with a slightly crisped exterior from the frying process, like a doughnut.
We used the pipette to inject the chocolate milk into one of the beignets.
The result was a totally different texture from the beignet’s fluffy and traditional texture.
The thin milk saturated the bready texture inside, and made the texture grainy and soggy.
Hot Cocoa Beignets Without Milk
These are a regular Mickey Beignet base, with some added holiday bonuses. The typical powdered sugar is replaced with hot cocoa powdered sugar, which is a little less sweet than the regular. The fudge drizzle was our favorite addition to a classic snack. It was very rich and thick and helped keep some of the hot cocoa powder on the beignet. There were very few snowflakes sprinkles on our trio, but we thought the sprinkles were a cute festive addition. We didn’t think they had a strong flavor.
Overall
The pipette of chocolate milk was a strange addition. We felt that if you are the kind of person who likes soggy bread, this would be a really fun option for you since the beignet flavor and chocolate milk are both delicious. Using the pipette as intended and injecting the liquid into the treat made the treat doughy and thicker. It also Made the beignet cold.
However, the hot cocoa beignets without chocolate milk inside were delicious. We would recommend that guests who enjoy chocolate will love these, but don’t infuse them. Just take the chocolate milk shot on the side.
If you don’t infuse the treat, we would rate these 9/10, but only give the treat a 2.8/10 if you make them soggy. It’s a fun holiday twist on a classic treat, but they’re trying too hard to be different with the pipette of milk.
