In a statement shared on X, ESA said:

After more than two decades of serving as a central showcase for the video game industry, ESA has decided to end E3. ESA remains focused on advocating for ESA member companies and the industry workforce who fuel positive cultural and economic impact every day.

E3 holds relevance to gamers and Disney fans alike, as The Walt Disney Company has announced many games involving Disney properties at the expo throughout the years. Most recently, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” Video Game, “Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life” Featuring Pirates of the Caribbean, and “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora” all had major announcements at E3.

Once the biggest expo and trade show for the video games industry, E3 struggled to bounce back after the COVID-19 pandemic, with the last event being held virtually in 2021. The 2022 expo was canceled, with no virtual event held in its place. E3 was also hit with mounting competition, as many game developers have taken to promoting their games directly to consumers, such as Nintendo Directs, skipping the high-cost convention investments.

Are you sad to see E3 finally come to its end? Or do you prefer each developer have their own promotional events, like Nintendo Directs? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
