The Walt Disney Company is issuing shareholders cash dividends for the first time in three years.
Disney suspended the dividend in May 2020 when it was priced at $0.88 per share. Before COVID, Disney declared dividends semi-annually. The $0.30 per share dividend will be “payable January 10, 2024, to shareholders of record at the close of business on December 11, 2023,” and now, we’ve got a bit more information.
Disney is sending emails out to shareholders to advise them of their options for dividend disbursement — so keep an eye on your inbox if you’re a shareholder!
On January 10th, 2024, shareholders will receive payment as follows:
- Dividend Checks: Checks will be mailed on January 10th, 2024. Please allow the post office at least 10 mailing days to deliver your check.
- Direct Deposit: Funds will be credited on January 10th, 2024.
- Dividend Reimbursement: The reinvestment of your dividend will be completed within five business days of the payable date. A statement showing the reinvestment will be delivered to you after the reinvestment is complete.
Shareholders can opt for a check, direct deposit, or have the dividends reinvested into Disney stock depending on what you’ve elected.
The dividend is likely welcome news, as Disney stock has not been performing at its best. Back in October, prices were trading at their lowest point in nearly 10 years — since October 2014. During the most recent company earnings call, we learned that revenues for Q4 of fiscal year 2023 grew 5% and 7% compared to the prior year-quarter and prior year, respectively.
So, if you’re a Disney shareholder, keep an eye out for that cash dividend payment — and if you’re not, well, maybe now is a good time to take the leap!
