Storyliving by Disney Is Coming to North Carolina. What Should We Expect?

Have you ever dreamed of living in a Disney park?

Magic Kingdom

If we could, we would live in Magic Kingdom in the castle suite with birds that drift in and out of our room singing us their beautiful songs. It would be a magical life right out of a storybook. And all the amazing food would be available to us 24/7 (catch us eating a Mickey pretzel at 4AM). Life would be good. Well, if you’re willing to move to North Carolina in the next few years, your dream of living in a Disney story could become a reality.

Storyliving by Disney is coming to North Carolina. But what is Storyliving? Well, Disney Imagineers have designed, and are creating communities, that bring the magic of Disney into your everyday life. With homes and experiences that are reminiscent of being in a Disney theme park, these communities are anything but ordinary.

Disney Imagineers bring the culture, heritage, and natural beauty of the surrounding area to the community. There will be storytelling throughout the community and they will “weave the essence of a region into the very fiber of the community.”

Of course, these will be entertainment and programs as part of the communities (this is Disney after all)! If you opt to join a club within the community, you can have access to a clubhouse, a mix of Disney experiences and everyday activities, special excursions, and even enrichment programs. Plus, Disney Cast Members will be there to provide services. (Cotino residents will have a choice of becoming club members, while it sounds like all homeowners in Asteria will be required to join.)

Don’t these sound magical? We would TOTALLY live here.

Currently, Disney has announced two of these Storyliving communities — Cotino in Rancho Mirage, California, and the newest one, Asteria in Pittsboro, North Carolina.

As of now, we haven’t heard what the prices of these homes in Asteria will be. But we do have a rough guess based on the prices that were announced for Cotino.

We did the math to find out that Cotino houses are roughly 98% more expensive than the average market price in the area. By using that percentage, we determined that the homes in Asteria could start at $1.05 million.

They are planning Asteria to be a community for homeowners of all ages with certain residences being for people 55 and older. 4,000 homes are planned, offering single-family and multi-family residences. Asteria residents will become part of the club (with dues and fees) that offers a clubhouse, wellness center, community garden, and extensive trail system.

This new community will bring new jobs, new residents, and new economic resources to the surrounding area and state of North Carolina. People may move to the new community from all over the country, bringing income and taxes into the nearby city of Raleigh. It will also give residents the opportunity for a more active lifestyle and life-long learning opportunities.

We’re pretty sure Disney fans everywhere, have once dreamed about living in a Disney fairytale, and now you can have the chance (if you have a casual million dollars lying around to spend on a house). These communities sound amazing and we can’t wait to visit them!
