Universal Studios Florida’s new DreamWorks Land will open sometime this year and we’ve spotted some new construction updates since our last visit. The land will feature characters from Shrek, Trolls, Kung Fu Panda, and Gabby’s Dollhouse.
DreamWorks Land Updates
Shrek’s outhouse has arrived! The iconic outhouse with a slanted roof and crescent moon door can easily be seen over the construction walls. The outhouse sits up high and appears to be part of the play area.
It looks like the outhouse is sitting on a platform and the bottom portion of the door is missing.
Shrek’s swamp is making a lot of progress. The new structure is right next to the entrance for the E.T. Adventure. During construction, a metal wall was added to the top of the construction walls. That piece acted as an extra shield to protect guests during work around the top of the tree. Now that work on this area is wrapping up, the metal barrier is no longer necessary and has been removed.
This new addition is extremely close to the entrance of the E.T. Adventure and E.T.’s Toy Closet. When KidZone was still open, this area had a small stage and some trees and planters nearby. Now, however, a giant, towering tree has been built very close to our beloved opening day attraction. Hopefully, it will feel more spacious when the construction walls are removed completely.
During our visit, we also spotted the construction workers removing the scaffolding from around the top of the tree stump in Shrek’s swamp. The construction workers were taking apart the poles around the tree and passing them down to the crew below.
The tree has been painted different shades of brown and patches of moss and grass have been added. The base of the tree is full of long, lush grass that moves gently in the breeze.
Another part of DreamWorks Land will feature a Trolls-themed rollercoaster, which is a retheme of Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster. In our last update, we spotted the crew members installing the spiderweb around the top of the Trollercoaster track. Now, the web has been fully added around the top of the coaster. Judging by the creepy spider figures that were added nearby, this ride might involve trying to escape some of those monstrous critters.
Off to the side, we can see some big changes to the former Shrek and Donkey meet and greet location. Before becoming a meet and greet spot, this was the Barney Shop for many years. Now, the roof has been painted brown with a domed piece installed. There’s a black wrapping around this part, with a weathervane sticking out at the top.
The weathervane shows a leaping cat with a fishbone beneath. We don’t instantly recognize this from any of the DreamWorks canon, but it’s entirely possible this could be something for Gabby’s Dollhouse. Gabby will be featured in DreamWorks Land in some way and this could potentially be a meet and greet location.
Something else is visible over the construction walls, but we can’t quite tell what it is. It looks like a black and red column and it is still attached to a crane.
Very little has been announced about DreamWorks Land yet, but it will open sometime in 2024, so be sure to stay tuned for more updates.
