The Haunted Mansion queue is getting a make-over and we are “dying” to see all the changes!
We are STILL mourning the loss of Haunted Mansion at Disneyland as of January 2024. While the white walls bring sorrow to our hearts, we are also excited for what is to come! We are expecting BIG changes over at Haunted Mansion, and we are breaking them all down for you!
Haunted Mansion officially closed for refurbishment on January 21st, 2024, and while we don’t have a reopening date yet, we are expecting this closure to be fairly lengthy. A LOT is happening to the Haunted Mansion queue, and we can’t wait to see what is hiding behind those white walls!
Disney announced the closure back in August 2023, and we are walking you through ALL the changes we are expecting to see! So, without further ado, let’s get started!
Expansion of the Grounds with Enhanced Theming
We love the lore of the Haunted Mansion, and we are SO excited to see that Disney is going to be further expanding on the story of the Haunted Mansion. The refurbishment will include an expansion of the outdoor queue with additional theming for guests to be immersed in. The legend behind the Haunted Mansion is that it was built by a sea captain. And ever since, the staff has been devoted to taking care of the “haunting grounds.”
The expanded queue will delve deeper into the stories of the Haunted Mansion and its grounds. Have no fear though, Disney did confirm that the pet cemetery and horse-drawn funeral hearse are not going anywhere! We definitely would have cried if they took away the pet cemetery!

New Garden Spaces
The expansion of the grounds will also introduce some new garden spaces. The gardens are going to be inspired by Master Gracey, Madame Leota, and the one-eyed cat.
Every garden space will be unique and will have special elements like water fountains, gazebos, statuary, and themed landscaping. We have a feeling these gardens will be a ‘hauntingly’ good time!
New Greenhouse
The new garden spaces wouldn’t be complete without a greenhouse to grow the plants in! A new greenhouse will be added to the queue where the groundskeepers will grow all the plants!
We must say that the ghosts really do know how to impress, and we can’t wait to see behind the scenes of their impressive landscaping!
Additional Queue Accessibility
We are also happy to report that along with the expanded queue, Disney will also be making the queue more accessible.
This will include installing a new elevator exit from the Haunted Mansion. We LOVE a good accessible queue!
Stand-Alone Retail Shop Owned by Madame Leota
Last but certainly not least, the Haunted Mansion will also be getting its own stand-alone retail store! WE ARE SO EXCITED!!! This new store will be owned by Madame Leota and will feature plenty of Haunted Mansion merchandise. The shop will be housed in the Carriage House of the mansion.
While this shop could be similar to Memento Mori in Magic Kingdom, it could also be completely different. Either way we are so thrilled for this addition!
There you have it! These are ALL the queue changes that have been announced so far! We can’t wait to see the grand reveal and of course bring you all along with us!
