More decorative pieces have been installed on the central column of Astro Orbitor at Disneyland, which has been closed for refurbishment since November.
Astro Orbitor Refurbishment
In our last update, crews had installed the metal casing and planets of the column up to the small gold planet. The rest of the column has been installed, including more tiny planets and decorations. When Astro Orbitor first opened at Disneyland in 1998, elements of the column spun and moved, but these effects have been dormant for several years.
There have been no significant changes to the ride’s appearance since it was stripped down and removed for refurbishment.
Work is complete on the large planet decoration to the side of the ride. This piece was not removed but was surrounded by scrim and scaffolding for several weeks as it was repainted. The metallic planet, moons, and ring have their shiny finish again.
The ride was originally scheduled to reopen on March 8. According to the Disneyland Resort website, Astro Orbitor will reopen on March 22.
