New Merchandise Featuring Br’er Rabbit Released at Walt Disney World

A new drawstring backpack at Walt Disney World recycles old Magic Kingdom artwork that still features Br’er Rabbit and the old Cinderella Castle paint job.

Drawstring Backpack – $24.99

The new backpack is light blue with black drawstrings. The design on the front is from 2006 when Disney Parks took on the tagline “When Dreams Come True.” Various classic animated Disney characters and characters representing each Magic Kingdom land are pictured in front of Cinderella Castle and a blue sky.

The art wasn’t altered at all for the new merch item. Cinderella Castle is still depicted as all light gray instead of with its 50th anniversary “EARidescent” makeover. And Br’er Rabbit from “Song of the South” and Splash Mountain is pictured next to Cinderella and Alice.

The same artwork is used on this heather gray shirt, which isn’t new but is still available.

Br’er Rabbit represents Frontierland, while a Hitchhiking Ghost represents The Haunted Mansion and Liberty Square and a pirate represents Adventureland. Br’er Rabbit hasn’t been featured on new merchandise in years and most Splash Mountain merchandise hasn’t been restocked since the ride permanently closed in January 2023. Splash Mountain has popped up on some recent Walt Disney World merchandise.

Most references to “Song of the South” and Splash Mountain have been removed from Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort due to the racist nature of the film. Splash Mountain at Disneyland and Magic Kingdom is being transformed into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, inspired by “The Princess and the Frog.” Splash Mountain remains at Tokyo Disneyland.
