Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has chosen Craig Mateer to take over the empty Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board seat left by Martin Garcia, who was Chairman of the Board and resigned two weeks ago.
DeSantis Appoints Craig Mateer
Mateer founded Bags Inc., a luggage handling business that he sold in 2018 for $275 million. He then founded and remains CEO of CCM Capital Group, which provides hospitality, real estate, and logistical services.
Mateer is a Florida State University graduate and served on their Board of Trustees from 2016 to 2022. DeSantis named Mateer to the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority Board in 2021 and to the Florida Board of Governors in 2022.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Mateer donated to DeSantis’ campaigns for governor and president, and to the Florida Republican Party.
The Florida Senate must now approve Mateer’s appointment.
The District Board will meet on Wednesday, March 27 to approve DeSantis’ choice of Stephanie Kopelousos as the new District Administrator.
