New decorative panels in the exit queue of Space Mountain at Tokyo Disneyland tease its permanent closure and the new version of the ride coming in 2027.

In this tunnel of slanted walls, panels on the side are illuminated by blue-green lights. The panels feature space with stars, planets, ships, and the iconic attraction building.
The panels have been installed just over a week before Celebrating Space Mountain: The Final Ignition starts. The celebration will honor the current version of the attraction from April 9 through July 31, its closing date. There will be special merchandise and other limited-time offerings.
The panel on the right wall reads, in English and Japanese:
Since 1983 until today, this extraordinary Space Mountain has encapsulatedthe dreams of countless space travelers who embarked on voyages through space…
The left wall reads:
Excited changes are in store for Space Mountain. Let’s seize this moment and together, forge a path towards a new future!
Space Mountain opened with Tokyo Disneyland on April 15, 1983. It’s a clone of the Disneyland version, which opened in 1977. The original ride opened at Magic Kingdom in 1975.
The Oriental Land Company announced the new Space Mountain and released concept art in 2022. A trademark filed in March indicates the new version of the ride will be called “Space Mountain Earthrise,” but this has not been officially announced. With the construction of the new ride, Tokyo Disneyland will also get a new Tomorrowland plaza.
OLC will spend approximately ¥56 billion ($437 million) on the project. Crews began clearing a construction site in late 2022. There was a groundbreaking ceremony in May 2023.
