There’s been a change to one of the “ghost writer” busts in the library scene of The Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom.

A month ago, one of the busts went dark. It was still barely visible in its alcove but no longer illuminated.

A dark setting reminiscent of the Haunted Mansion, with three illuminated busts, one prominently floating in the upper center and two smaller ones below, capturing an eerie moment that feels like it could be straight out of vacation photos from Magic Kingdom.

As of June 8, 2024, the bust is illuminated again. It still has the same illusion as the other busts appearing to turn and watch you as you pass, but it looks a little different. While the other busts are all lit with a warmer yellowish light. This bust is lit with a cooler color, making it appear whiter with some red undertones.

A glowing white bust floats in a dark background of the Haunted Mansion with small illuminated objects, like eerie photos, visible in the top right corner.

More notably, the bust’s expression appears to change slightly as it watches you. It appears to be lit with a projector instead of just a light, à la the singing busts in the graveyard (or the projected character faces of Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Frozen Ever After).

The expression changes are slight flickers but you can see them in the video below.
