New and Upgraded Interactive Shoulder Banshees Coming to Walt Disney World

At D23: The Ultimate Fan Event, Disney announced that new interactive shoulder Banshees with upgraded tech and features will be coming to Pandora – The World of Avatar in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

New Shoulder Banshees

A vibrant, blue and purple animatronic bird with a long neck and distinct markings stands on a rock in a lush, illuminated setting with plants and foliage.

These all new Banshees are far more advanced than the previous iteration. Those were powered with a bicycle brake-style mechanism, using pressure to perform a variety of movements like turning their heads, and were entirely mechanical.

These new Banshees will be able to “recognize each other, react through new motion and sound animations, and feature a bioluminescent glow” according to Disney.

A detailed model of a colorful, mythical creature with wings is perched on a moss-covered rock surrounded by lush plants in a themed environment. A basket containing rolled-up papers is nearby.
Vividly lit tropical plants and statues of colorful birds displayed on tree stump pedestals surrounded by lush greenery in an exhibit.

This new and improved batch of Banshees will be coming to the Windtraders Rookery in Pandora – The World of Avatar later this fall. No pricing has been announced, and it is unknown at this time if Disney plans on phasing out the old style of Banshees or if the will be sold in tandem with these new models.

New details were announced yesterday about ‘Avatar 3’, which is now titled ‘Avatar Fire and Ash.’ It is set to hit theatres on December 19, 2025. We also predict that more details could be announced later tonight about the Avatar “experience” that is coming to Disneyland Resort.
