A large screen at D23 displays an animated scene of a man and woman riding horses in a magical forest. A person stands on stage in front of the screen with an audience watching, eagerly anticipating any hints about Frozen III.

Jennifer Lee, Walt Disney Animation Studios Chief Creative Officer and director of the first two “Frozen” films, confirmed the two sequels are in production simultaneously during an interview with Fandango.

“We’re working in a room where we have this half of the room’s ‘Frozen III,’ this half of the room’s ‘Frozen IV,’” Lee said. “We’re standing in the middle going back and forth.”

Lee said they are still “very early on” in production and she can’t reveal much. The sequels aim to answer questions like “Who gave Elsa her powers?” and “What happened to Hans?” Watch the full interview, in which Lee also discusses “Moana 2” and “Zootopia 2,” below.

“Frozen III” is set for release on Wednesday, November 24, 2027, the day before Thanksgiving. Concept art for the film was released at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event.
