Hidden Details in NEW Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Rooms Revealed

Disney Vacation Club has released a video breaking down the hidden details of the sculpted manta ray that will hang in rooms of the new Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.

Polynesian Village Resort Island Tower Manta Ray

The sculpted manta ray will hang above the dining table in the tower’s 1- and 2-bedroom villas. It’s designed by a tattoo artist with inspiration from Polynesia designs. It’s also reminiscent of Grandma Tala’s manta ray spirit in “Moana,” which appears in other artwork in the tower.

A detailed decorative design resembling an unfolded bat with intricate floral and geometric patterns carved into a light-colored surface, located in one of the Island Tower rooms at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort.

In the “Details We Dig” video below, Disney Vacation Club reveals these details of the sculpture:

  • An upside-down Mickey with a face inspired by a Polynesian wayfinder’s guiding star
  • Spearhead shapes representing strength and perseverance
  • A woven mat pattern representing foundation
  • The spearheads and woven mat pattern are at the top of the manta, representing the traits needed to navigate the journey of life
  • Open arm symbols represent the giving and sharing nature of the Polynesian people
  • Turtle shell scales represent the protection of the family
  • Family is also represented with symbols of people coming together
  • Fern leaves represent growth and new beginnings
  • Ocean waves represent the sea
  • Shark teeth also symbolize protection
  • The combination of the fern leaves, ocean waves, and shark teeth represent protection while traveling the earth and sea
  • A sea turtle in the center of the design also symbolizes family
  • A fish hook on the turtle’s back is a nod to Maui’s hook and represents the ability to bring food to family
  • Abstract symbols represent the eyes of ancestors watching over us
  • Polynesian leaves that must come together to weave a mat represent people coming together from around the world

The video also contains glimpses of other Island Tower artworks, including another piece featuring a manta ray, a piece featuring Te Fiti, and headboard art featuring dolphins and outriggers. In our most recent construction update about the Island Tower, we spotted a mural in one of the terrace gardens.

The Island Tower opens this December at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.
