The InSneider reports that the Muppet Studios Lot, which was originally Charlie Chaplin Studios, has been bought by the Church of Scientology.

Church of Scientology Purchases Historic Muppet Studios Lot

Over the summer, the Henson family revealed that it was in the process of selling the historic Jim Henson Company Lot. Now, rumors indicate that the Church of Scientology has purchased the home of the Muppet studios.

The Church of Scientology has not revealed what they plan to do with the space. However, the Jim Henson Company will remain as a tenant on the lot.

In June, The Wrap reported that the Jim Henson Company said the sale is “part of a much longer-term strategy to have The Jim Henson Company and our renowned Burbank-based Jim Henson’s Creature Shop under one roof, which is not feasible in Hollywood due to the space the Shop requires.”

The Jim Henson Company purchased the 80,000-square-foot lot in 1999 and has used it as the company’s headquarters since 2000. The lot was established by Charlie Chaplin in 1919. Chaplin used the lot to film many of his classic films, including “The Great Dictator,” “The Kid,” Modern Times,” “The Gold Rush,” and more. It was named a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1969.
